AV Geeks Lunch 9-13-2023

hi everybody I'm skip Alzheimer welcome to the AV Geeks lunchtime streaming show we are pre-recorded today because I am out of the studio or out of the archive um but I still wanted to show you new stuff we're still getting new boxes of stuff uh films some religious films some general educational films and just some random stuff which has just been phenomenal so we're going to go ahead and get started with something I have on the scanner this is three mothers four fathers was that right is that right what does it say three mothers and four fathers all right religious I don't know we'll see we'll see how provocative it is um to the Protestant mindset enjoy give the projectionist an opportunity to adjust the sound level and focus the lens before the start of the figure in a moment the focus chart and music will end followed by five seconds of darkened screen before the actual picture begins this I love this so much this is awesome [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hahaha [Music] Hong Kong three and a half million people and almost every one of them has a dramatic interesting story that could be told [Music] take this boy for example his name is Lee Paul with a lifetime of trouble this little fellow has known in his nine short years parents killed escaping from Red China Lee Poe made his way to Hong Kong with his uncle who later sold him his second parents treated him so cruelly he was forced to run away now at nine years of age Tipo found a third family who were willing to keep him on only one condition he must learn to steal this is Lee Paul age nine about to become a thief [Music] in order to understand Lee Poe and his problems you must become better acquainted with the background of his story and that background is Hong Kong today Hong Kong as a missionaries know it those who live close to the common people who share their burdens who know the struggle for survival that makes up the core of life for the city's teeming [Music] of course there is another side to the city high up above the misery and squalor are the modern Office Buildings and Residences of the more fortunate but this is not Lee posed Hong Kong his world lies down there with the masses how well the missionaries know the environment [Music] this is what Lee Poe sees a half million people floating in the bay like Castaways some of the children of the boat people are his friends and Playmates [Music] they likely pull learn to shift for themselves at an early age all apart the pattern for survival Hong Kong is no longer just a place it is people people by the multiplied thousands two thousand persons to an acre of ground whole families in one room hunts packed together so closely that privacy is impossible [Music] the streets of Hong Kong are never silent an all night long lipo can hear the noise of the shouting the laughter the Weeping of the life around him missionaries who have served in Hong Kong in recent years agreed that it is probably the worst place in the world to bring up a child the Sons and Daughters of the refugee house the rooftops the sand path the street dwellers children the homeless children cannot be children for long [Music] their world and Lee pose is like a jungle in which only the very strong managed to survive [Music] [Music] my story really began at mid-morning on a bright summer's day as a hurry through the marketplace on my way to the orphanage this was a busy time of the day and the market was in full swing [Music] it was as crowded and noisy as ever with a shopkeepers bargaining and calling out their Wares on all sides [Music] but off on the edge of the crowd at an out of the way store the busiest scene of them all was taking place [Music] foreign [Music] by the way the little fellow clung to me I knew he must be an orphan and my heart went out to him [Music] maybe you should be arrested but maybe you shouldn't here take this dollar or pay for everything Tunisia in that momentary Embrace something was born between us and I knew I would have to find him to learn his name to help him find a home I followed him through the crowded Market catching glimpses of him then losing him again knowing if he got away from me I would never be able to find him in most cities if you lose sight of someone you're almost certain to see him again but in Hong Kong with its crowds its narrow streets its Maze of buildings and Alleyways my chance of finding him was very small [Music] something was tugging at my heart something in the way he looked at me and held on to me something that told me of a great emptiness within that little heart an emptiness I prayed God would permit me to fill [Music] into the orphanage with a sinking heart [Music] as the children gathered around me talking and laughing I was still hearing the Brokenhearted sobs of that boy I had lost [Music] as I entered and looked around I recall that many of these children had known the same kind of heartaches and I thank the Lord that at least we had these to care for [Music] [Applause] I told them a funny little story and we all had a good laugh [Music] but they seemed so few in number and I thought what a little Island of Happiness the orphanage was in the middle of such a vast ocean of suffering [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you as I said a simple prayer thanks for our food that day I inwardly said a bigger thank you to the Lord for allowing me to be a missionary and I meant it [Music] all the children ate I looked around the table at their happy little faces thank you I think I loved every child just a little more because of my experience in the marketplace earlier in the day at that time the kitties toddled off to soft beds with clean white sheets far away from the filth and clamor of the city streets and I thought as I watched them of the little Lost Boy and wondered where he would spend the night it was then I recall the story Jesus told of the shepherd who had a fold full of sheep still couldn't forget the one sheep that was lost [Music] thank you foreign [Music] asked for another story and I obliged [Music] but I couldn't escape the memory of two warm little arms that had wrapped themselves around my heart and were pulling me back to the marketplace to seek once more for that one lost sheep I excused myself from story time to go back back where life is no fantasy where life is a nightmare of reality even for a nine-year-old child [Music] back to the marketplace growing quieter now in the late afternoon no sign of the boy I searched the IELTS and corners of the market search the faces of the children who ran past and quickly disappeared into the lengthening Shadows the Shadows deepened I knew he was out there somewhere probably afraid to return empty-handed to those who had sent him out to the marketplace to steal [Music] my search took me back to the neighborhood where I had last seen him one of the poorest areas in the city a dark shabby neighborhood where a grown man would not be safe alone at night let alone a child I didn't realize at that moment how very close to each other we had been [Music] as I later discovered Lee Paul went trembling home back to the people who had tried to make him a thief he knew what to expect they had warned him before if he was too good to steal he was too good to keep and now he was returning home empty-handed to beg for a bite to eat and a place to sleep got a bite to eat or drink because he had come home empty-handed [Music] and then the final blow [Music] they had put up with him long enough and they threw him into the streets a little boy who was too good to keep [Music] alone again wandering in the dark with a broken heart little lipo tried to understand [Music] Why did no one want him he'd live with three families and everyone had deserted him when he needed them so much [Music] which way should he go it didn't really matter one was as good as another but nobody cared about him anyway [Music] suddenly Libo hurt familiar voices it was his two friends from the marketplace he wouldn't have to spend the night alone after all he could stay with them everything would be all right laughs [Music] [Laughter] poorly on the sidewalk and solved his heart out it was there I found him pour it away all alone in the world [Music] he tried to tell me about it I understood [Music] hello and then he said nobody wants me [Music] someone does want you son someone loves you very much that's your fourth father you don't know him now but you will you will as we walked up the street and through all Hong Kong that night my heart sang and I felt understood better than ever before the story Jesus told of the shepherd who had 99. and went out to search for one that was lost I knew why Jesus said that when the man came home he shouted Rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost [Music] that one was intense um beautiful color holy cow and then the beginning leader with the uh the focus and the sound big fan of that so um I what I've been doing with some of these pre-recorded shows has been showing a film uh scanning it not quite knowing what it is and then trying to show films that I've already digitized um that might add to this and so this is uh one that came to mind you know little little boys who steal and what happens to them so here is uh this all right sorry too many things going on all right um been trying to show you films about uh boys that steal stole um this one is a short uh it's called so I took it enjoy [Music] my girlfriend and I we go shopping and sometimes when we saw something we really wanted we'd take it about how many times did this happen before with about four sure it was only four just about that many times what was your friend's name do I have to tell I really think that it might be a good idea if you did tell Glenda what's Glenda's last name Jackson did she go to school with you yeah I told them all about it and about the other things I took and I began to feel a little cleaner again for the first time since I met Glenda me and my friend was in another store foreign [Music] [Music] hey Sally that's mean how much is it too much [Music] take it come on it's easy it's fun maybe if you aren't scared go on I dare you don't get a baby all your life [Music] what if they catch me they won't I'm gonna keep her busy [Music] Library [Music] I didn't want my girlfriend to think I was chicken so I took it [Music] and that time I didn't get caught how lucky can you get I thought but I'd only known it was the unluckiest thing that could ever have happened to me hey guys guess what um my instructor taught us today like throw a guy bigger than you yeah that's pretty good how do you like that ice cream you really mean it yeah right can I be excused hmm I didn't have much appetite at dinner that night I couldn't wait to get into my room where I hid the purse I stole that afternoon funny didn't look so good now and I wondered why I ever wanted it [Music] good enough before coming in but you said you'd help me with my arithmetic in a little while go on now foreign was how funny it made me feel when I did it and how fast I was breathing and how my mouth got dry it was like I passed a test or something and after that Glenda became my best friend we went out every afternoon shopping together Glenda wasn't afraid of the TV Camera she said she had a system for beating it it got so stealing little stuff wasn't so exciting anymore so we went after bigger things before a few times we got away with it [Music] hi Mom hi darling where have you been oh Brooklyn is doing our homework oh where did you get the blouse oh I borrowed it from Brenda it looks practically new yeah it is lying is just like stealing the more you do it the easier it seems to get this afternoon grendu is going after a blouse she really wanted and I went along as Lookout I thought it was all clear so I gave her the signal [Music] [Music] what we didn't know is the blouse had a secret electronic tag on it and it set off the signal when she walked off without paying for it she didn't seem so sure of herself now she looked just like a scared little kid in fact she even turned on me hello Mrs Jackson how are you no not my Sally well yeah no I can't tell you how I feel right now I'm going to have to talk to her first yes I'll let you know thank you Sally yeah that was Glenda's mother she said that you put Glenda up to taking that blouse would you do something like that no Mom I wouldn't do a thing like that honest you know I wouldn't well I'm aware of that one too just after that a policeman came to school and told us about all sorts of stuff they have to catch shoplifters like two-way mirrors to watch and make sure you don't steal stuff and Glenda was all wet they have hidden cameras all around some places even make a video recording of people who take things so they can't say they didn't do it stores have plain clothes detectives walking around people you never dream are watching you some of them look like teenagers themselves did you just buy it yes I don't believe you I did what you get it from Victoria Department okay come on I gotta go home but we'll call your parents when we get there okay so I swap for quite a while but then I just got bored I guess I wanted the excitement so I started lifting little things at stores where I thought it was easy to get away with it but it didn't work anymore it wasn't any fun alone maybe that's what made me do what I did I sure can't figure out any other reason hey Sally can I borrow a dollar are you kidding what four I lost my other one honestly why don't you take it you mean take it yeah I dare you where would I put it put in your hat if I only hadn't said it just three little words but they sure wrecked our family hello young man hey where are you going tell me what are you gonna do with this huh did you pay for this time [Music] [Music] thank you they took us down to the station and because they couldn't reach mom they put us in a room but no matter what they called it it was jail I'll be okay they can't do anything to a little kid like you everything will be all right they can't do anything to you thank you Mommy it was all my fault I dared him too do you realize what you were doing Sally was wrong you know you should be setting example for your younger brother all right all right Mr Mrs Sanders due to the children's ages this time I'll refer this case to our juvenile counselor and he'll be contacting you at a later date and set up an appointment I know there's going to be a big black mark on my record from now on wherever I go and whatever I do what else they're going to do to me I still don't know my parents I suppose they'll forgive me sometime that's the way they are but how long will it take them to ever trust me again [Music] thank you uh yeah so I got that wrong I remember the little boy stealing stuff but I can't remember I didn't remember the fact that his sister and her friend were also stealing stuff so sorry about that all right um we got one more film and oops the wrong thing uh this is uh of course I've I've shown these before but this one is so great mostly because it features uh another shoplifting person uh who's played by Jim Stringer the guy who did shake hands with danger I love this because of the electronic soundtrack and how everything's in slow motion it's really really a lot of fun this is caught in a rip-off enjoy [Music] if you want to get it we better hurry because we're already late okay no sounds and I think I am gonna get some okay well come on okay is anybody here oh just a minute Domino cab oh I can't see anybody I'm not gonna give you a lot of I mean if you want a sermon catch Billy Graham on the two so what sometimes it's not even planned it just happens and it's as much the store's fault as it is ours I mean if they want you to wait on them it ought to be worth something [Music] or like there's some things that have a certain amount of class and you think you might like to have one all right and you look and it's like nine prices so either way it's a rip-off either they get you or you get them [Music] I couldn't care less what it'll do to your folks when they find out no I don't think so she's looking the other way chances are they're up to the same thing either on their income taxes or expense accounts that's what I mean by crap oh wow I'm not going to give you any of that righteous crap because it's not that big a deal try them on oh that's great you see your powder there's only one a can of spray paint measly can of spray paint that's what I got for free well just about that's what I'm getting to those snooper mirrors are really a laugh they're mainly there to psych you out if they can see you then you can see them and act accordingly I'm not so stupid that I don't know what I'm being watched like the flunkies in the store payroll you'd really have to be out of it not to consider every customer in the store as a plant or the clerks spying on you is what they get paid for you're certainly not going to find one that will help you find what you want obviously they don't get paid well enough otherwise there wouldn't be so many rip-offs that turn out so well from our standpoint yes sir free enterprise you've got to give the merchant some credit they get together in associations and have lists of the people they think are getting to them or they've developed profiles for how a shoplifter acts you might be surprised at how well they've got us pegged I'm not going to tell you exactly what it is that it learns them because well I said no crap so no crap I don't know but they do have codes [Music] you never can tell what the code will be it might not always be a call for a checker in a certain checkout stand it might just be a break in the music or a light blinking you never can tell and something else I didn't know you can literally see right through the wall or if they don't spot you that way you you've got some other scheme going man there is nothing fair about it [Music] um yeah [Music] I'm telling you this so that if you're just into for the game you'll realize how many players there are and you won't sell your opponents short foreign will there be anything else [Music] no they've got you I mean legally who'd be expected to know that you go through the checkout stand and they ask you if there's anything else and you say no then that's concealing with intent to divert to your own use and that's stealing according to them even if it's just a little harmless Penny Andy stuff [Music] you bet hair stands up on the back of your neck you get an empty feeling in the pit of your stomach you know they know they're gonna let you get out of the store and then they're gonna NAB you if you let them if you don't play it very cool oh wait I think there was something else I wanted excuse me just a moment are they willing to NAB me or aren't they [Music] boy you can feel the sweats start popping out sure [Music] geez they are under something I've got to get myself together easy slow and easy just walk back there and put it back it's not a rip-off if you haven't got anything on that's what you think [Music] hey wait a minute maybe there's a way out can I pay you for this I forgot I had it would you like to come to the office and talk about this uh unpaid merchandise there's nothing to talk about I meant to pay for it no no wait a minute this thing is they won't let you pay it's weird I mean I just forgot everybody thinks that all you have to do is pop up with the money if you get caught I mean who hasn't figured that wait a minute and that shows what you're up against once you pass the checkout counter they don't have to wait until you're out of the store when you came in here for it we're here hey what do you think I got in here Charlotte get him over there at the door what's going on I think they caught a shoplifter it's car keys you won't get far [Music] stupid [Music] stupid stupid stupid stupid you run and then there's no question a dead giveaway [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] to sing it all happen like a nightmare [Music] like a nightmare that's happening to somebody else only you know it's you that's you running oh my keys what do I do with my damn keys [Music] look I'm sorry man I I don't know what got into me I've just never done anything like that before come on let's you can be telling the truth and it's like he didn't hear you I'm married though I'm really sorry look you can't believe how many times I've heard that story ever you're not another human being with feelings or somebody's son or daughter that they're proud of or somebody with a great future whatever it is you know that you are you're just the same old story he's heard a million times you can't phase them you can't make them understand that this is important to you this is your future book uh can't we just forget about this I mean I know I made a mistake and I deserve to squirm a little bit but do you have to crucify me please why don't you have a seat I'm sorry I had no choice my bosses I have got to put a stop to shoplifting or I'm out of a job what's the percentage of shrinkage goes down and most shrinkages shoplifting I'm not going to be working here any longer no matter how sorry I might feel for the ones who are involved give me the police would you please I'm sure you know the number if I can hang on to my job I'd like to get paid in line with my efforts now my pay is based on whether this place makes any money or not so anybody that takes a dime's worth of stuff off those colors down there is really taking money out of my pocket I know shoplifter never stops to think everybody has to pay higher prices to cover the cost of what he gets away with I've had pretty little teenage girls sitting right there and pillars of the community grandmotherly types and they all say it isn't hurting anybody well it hurts me ready on your call Mr Powers Sergeant Duncan's on the line no you can't help yourself [Music] it's just torn out of you it's the deepest hurtness feeling you've ever felt [Music] just part Fear Part disgust with yourself in part maybe which is called grief grief for who you thought you were you probably won't get a chance to be now like some of you have died and this is the funeral and that's all I'm trying to get across to you what it feels like to be ashamed [Music] there are other humiliations being looked at like you were something rotten having to sweat out a long long wait [Music] [Music] mark I'm a lieutenant Sutton large Police Department I'd like to ask you some questions but first i'm required to issue that you're going to have a record to follow you around to have the right but I'm not going to harp on all that crap do you understand each of these rights all I'm trying to get across is what it does to you the way you get hurt when you're caught in a rip-off Mark you are hereby Summers to appear before the Municipal Court Lawrence on the eighth day of April 8 o'clock AM to answer a complaint charging you with shoplifting if you fail to appear a warrant will be issued for your arrest all right so I've shown that one a couple of times on here but it's so great um because it it tries to get into the psyche uh and you know you have that inner inner monologue uh Centron did uh several of those films the inner monologue of the what you're feeling um there's one called The Lunatic uh which Jim Stringer actually wrote the music for uh where you hear the internal monologue of a girl who gets called by the health department to say that she has VD and then she has to try to get the contact which she got BD from to go in um and so it's all her inside her brain so there's a lot of films like that and this one is great uh Jim told me that when they premiered this film his daughter was in the audience his young daughter and she was freaking out to see her dad being chased uh and uh being basically confronted by the police officer and everything he was just like oh my god um I started crying out loud thanks for tuning in today uh this is like I said a pre-recorded show but I still wanted to show you stuff and uh it turns out this was the
