to say uh that is bogus super bogus um let me see if i'm back sorry everybody am i back youtube can you see me am i back okay that's really frustrating because i am the only person that has that film um so the fact that somebody reported it um i'm not really quite sure what's going on um but essentially uh that film was part of what they called the high school institute where it was a summer program where high school students from around probably around the triangle area could go and um they would have a learn how to make a film and so um there are other versions of this from previous years and one of them is basically it's the same scene over and over and over again but this one i feel like they let the kids decide what they were going to um do um and which is why this story is so fragmented and why it shows kids uh smoking pot but they're probably not smoking pot but anyways um why was it banned it's so bogus i'll i'll uh maybe i'll report back or if i see why it was uh it's totally possible that some stupid music video used it and claimed support uh claimed that they owned it which is what i'm going through right now as i'm going through and clearing a lot of people that are claiming that they own material that i only have the only copy of so i have to go in and say like no you didn't create this i own the only copy of it you're [Music] bogus um you know i'm happy to let you use it but you can't claim exclusivity of it because that's not cool it's not cool for the super hippie anyways we're back uh let's learn why we use money enjoy [Music] so [Music] so once long ago there was a fisherman but he didn't fish just for fun he used the fish he caught to trade for things he needed for himself and his family what he needed right now most of all was a new sharp knife to cut himself loose since there was no money in those days he couldn't buy a knife so he took the fish and went to the knife maker to see if he could make a trade good morning mr knife maker here's a nice fresh fish i just caught i'll trade it to you for a good sharp knife i've already traded two knives for fish this morning look there how many fish do you think i can eat in one day what i need is a new hat to keep the sun out of my eyes my old hat fell in the fire yesterday bring me a new hat and i'll give you a sharp knife very well mr knife maker i'll go to the hat maker so the fisherman took his fish and went to the hat maker to see if he could make a trade mr hat maker i'll trade you this nice fresh fish for one of your hats then i can trade the hat to the knife maker for a good sharp knife well fisherman i'd like to oblige you really i would but this morning a man already traded me a fish for a hat now if you were offering me a loaf of bread to go with my fish well we might make a trade it's a long way to the bakers but i'll go and see if he'll trade with me so the fisherman set up for the baker mr baker please trade me a loaf of bread for my nice fresh fish so i can trade it to the hat maker for a hat then i can trade the hat to the knife maker for a knife well i we don't need a fish i caught one this morning what we need is a new plot ours is cracked bring a new pot and maybe we can talk about a tray so the fisherman took his fish to the potter shop oh please mr potter trade me a pot for my fish so i can trade it to the baker for a loaf of bread then i can trade the bread to the hat maker for a hat and trade the hat to the knife maker for a good sharp knife [Music] hmm little bad sized fish [Music] it smells good and fresh i could have it for my lunch very well fisherman it's a train so the fisherman took the pot from the pot maker and traded it to the baker or the baker's wife for a loaf of bread which he traded to the hat maker for a new hat which he gave to the knife maker hmm it fits pretty well and it's nice and soft all right fisherman here's one of my best and sharpest knives thank you mr knife maker now i can cut myself loose sit down you look tired fisherman you must have had to make a lot of trades before you found someone who wanted your fish oh yes everyone needs something but it's not always a fish i know i know trading sometimes takes me so long that i hardly have time to make knives you know it would be a lot easier if instead of everybody trading different things they could all use one special thing for trading what do you mean what kind of special thing could everyone use it would have to be something really special something you couldn't find just anywhere like little bits of precious metal gold or silver or copper then people would trade them for the fish they caught or the bread they baked or the pots or knives they made not a bad idea we wouldn't have to do all this trading if you needed a knife you'd come straight to me and if i needed a hat i'd go straight to the hat maker and what a great deal of time and trouble we would save so the fisherman and the knife maker talked to all the people who lived and worked in their village about the new idea ooh what a great idea yes i think it would work why didn't we think of it before the idea spread and soon everyone began using small pieces of precious metal for their trading some pieces were worth more than others and were stamped with marks which told their weight and value many were stamped with fancy designs these were called coins nowadays we use coins too to trade for things we need we also use paper money [Music] today a fisherman still catches fish but he sells his fish for money [Music] and if he finds that he needs a knife it's a simple matter to go to the store and buy one well it's a fairly simple matter [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] i get it it wasn't it was kind of coin um but it's part of an uh library uh learning corporation of america series there's why why are there taxes why is it this why is it that uh in nick is it bocesto um was an animator that did quite a few um educational films and also i think he worked for upa and did work with uh i think he worked on mr magoo and some other things like that so um there is a historical thing there but yeah some of it sometimes these just don't fly chuck please don't listen it's a copyright strike just to get out of watching it that's a bad thing bad thing um all right uh we already started thinking about um tabulation and measurement and certainly measuring precious metals is something that was related to currency it's time for us to watch a film about the metric system so if you hated that film you might hate this film uh this is measure weight think metric enjoy [Music] people measure things every day and in many ways measuring how heavy things are is a measure of weight your mother weighs the fruits and vegetables she buys at the market so she will know how much to buy and how much it will [Music] cost we weigh almost everything we use at one time or another [Music] trucks are weighed to find out how heavy a load they are carrying [Music] you've probably weighed yourself to see how much you've grown [Music] and chemicals are weighed very exactly for research experiments [Music] when you weigh anything you're comparing it to standard units of weight most people in the world use a standard unit of weight called the gram a gram is a small weight but the gram is still too big for many measurements so it's divided into tiny parts called milligrams there are exactly 1 000 milligrams in each gram the milligram is too tiny for most of us to use but the gram is a measurement of weight you can use to measure many things all you need are a scale marked in grams and something to weigh [Music] what's going on here what's on your mind we're measuring everything we can find we'll weigh with the scale it's fun to do and we'll count in grams maybe kilograms too measuring the world around us look at the scale tell me what does it show we'll learn more about the things that surround us the more we measure the more we'll know okay now the wrench pretty heavy [Music] 470 grams [Music] the cup's exactly 130 grams [Music] the light bulb's kind of big but it isn't even 30 grams that's a light light bulb [Music] this apple's a little heavier [Music] 175 grams the gram is fine for weighing smaller things but for big things we need a larger unit the kilogram it takes 1 thousand grams to make one kilogram i wonder how many kilograms the cat weighs [Music] [Music] all right up you go [Music] just over one and a half kilograms that's about 1500 grams [Music] now let's see what you weigh looks like 34 kilograms okay now your turn about 32 kilograms we need somebody bigger [Music] come on no i don't want to get on that thing i may break it come on come on i just want to see how much weight come on mom well just one time okay 65 kilograms how big how much what's heavy and what's light these are things you can measure when you know how to measure weight and you can also use it to make something good to eat [Music] the flower is first we need 300 grams [Music] 300 grams now the sugar 250 grams [Music] look at that right on 250 [Music] baking powder 10 grams [Music] now a little salt five grams shortly that's yuck [Music] 125 grams [Music] there we go a little vanilla some milk then you mix it up just like the recipe says [Music] imagine me the world around us look at the scale tell me what does it show we'll learn more about the things that surround us the more we measure the more we'll know the more we measure the more we'll know yeah i think that's a toe tapper it's it's not strictly a toe tapper but it is a song that i like that was written for uh kids to get them interested in measuring using metric which is such a weird niche thing like i got a song for it or you know what we need is a song that conveys this information as kids are uh making uh weighing things um yeah big fan um here's a here's a question we have we've had a couple of questions today one is why did youtube uh stop the stream uh i got an email that said yes we've stopped the stream but it hasn't said why at all and i'm waiting to see if if it happens during the show i'll i'll tell you well if i find out what's going on um then why we use money and then finally what is a mammal let's find out what is a mammal that the first large land animals to appear were reptiles reptiles invaded full environmental niche in water in the sky and on land although some reptilian types have survived other sorts of animals which had developed inconspicuously from a reptilian stock became better adapted to life on land these were mammals members of a group which includes almost all the larger animals on the surface of the earth and in the sea when we compare a mammal's characteristics with those of a reptile we find much evidence for the superiority of the mammal a modern lizard and a hamster may be compared in a warm environment the reptile is quite active however its periods of activity may be brief in a cold environment its movements cease as the temperature decreases its rate of living slows down on the other hand mammals pursue alert continuously activists because of this activity the first mammals had an advantage over most reptiles in competition for food efficiency of movement depends partly upon anatomy since reptiles legs are set out to either side a great amount of energy is expended to keep the body off the ground in contrast a mammal's legs are set directly beneath the body bones not muscles support the animal's weight specializations of this sort of support are common in modern mammals sense organs may also be compared the reptilian ear lies close to the surface of the body it is not covered by skin or by any protective structures inside only one small bone conducts sound from the eardrum to the inner ear the situation is quite different in a mammal a mammalian ear has an external flap for the concentration of sound waves the eardrum lies at the end of a long tube comparatively far beneath the surface of the skull it is connected to the inner ear by three bones which have evolved from bones in the old reptile jaw joint the three bones transmit vibrations with greater mechanical efficiency than a reptile's one bone the teeth in reptiles mouth are almost exactly alike on the other hand each kind of mammal has specialized teeth suited to its particular eating habits a hamster's chisel like front teeth are adapted for gnawing in a dog the arrangement is somewhat different the jaw is divided into incisors for nipping canines for attack and defense premolars and molars for shearing food the skull of a reptile consists of a number of bones this jaw has seven bones it meets the skull far to the rear an arrangement that gives little mechanical advantage in biting in contrast a mammal's skull has relatively few bones the jawbone is a single bone that meets the skull relatively close to the front less energy is expended on a forceful bite what's more every mammal has a hard palate which allows better separation of its breathing and feeding activities at the back of the reptilian skull is a comparatively small brain its structure is primitive for the cerebrum is concerned mainly with a sense of smell centers concerned with sight and behavior are located in a small midbrain region a mammal's brain is larger in comparison to the size of the animal than is the reptiles the brain case is relatively larger the cerebrum center for learning and intelligent behavior constitutes the bulk of the brain experiments reveal that a reptile has practically no mechanism for maintaining constant body temperature when a reptile is subjected to cold its body temperature drops immediately and noticeably subjected to heat the reptile's body temperature rises a reptile has no specialized mechanism to disperse excess heat within its body beats the reptilian heart except for alligators and crocodiles no reptile has a double completely separate circulating pump one side pumps deoxygenated blood from body to lungs the other returns oxygenated blood from lungs to body however the two systems are not completely separated oxygenated and deoxygenated blood may be intermixed in a mammal the situation is quite different normally the body temperature of a mammal is higher than the environmental temperature a major mechanism for maintaining temperature is the mammal's body covering in a cold environment each hair of a thick furred animal is erected trapping a blanket of still air that provides insulation when warm conditions prevail a mammal's body temperature does not change the reaction of the skin is reversed each hair is allowed to lie flat against the body reducing the insulating action and permitting heat to escape from the surface of the skin in a mammal the two sides of the heart are completely separated and there isn't the slightest chance that oxygenated blood will be mixed with deoxygenated blood this is an efficient pump though some reptiles give birth to live young nearly all deposit their eggs and desert them a developing reptile is nourished by yolk material in the egg after hatching there is no special mechanism to provide food for the young on the other hand nearly all mammals bear their young alive born relatively helpless they depend on maternal care some small mammals produce many offspring at the same time as a litter in contrast large mammals generally produce only one or a few offspring at a time more advanced animals retain their young until development is more nearly complete inside the mother's body they are nourished through an organ called the placenta the placenta is expelled at birth among mammals an important aspect of maternal care is the feeding of young after their birth the term mammal is derived from the name of certain glands which secrete nutrient fluid for feeding these are the mammary glands their fluid is milk maternal care sometimes continues long after a young mammal ceases to require milk such unique adjustments to a complex way of life evolved over millions of years a primitive stage in mammal development is represented by the egg-laying mammals one is the duckbill platypus of australia another egg-laying mammal is the spiny anteater except for the reptilian characteristic of laying eggs the spiny anteater basically resembles modern mammals more advanced than the egg layers are marsupials such as the opossum marsupials are primitive primarily in their method of bearing young a marsupial is born at a very early stage in its development when it is quite immature after birth it lives under a specialized flap of skin on the mother's body known as a pouch during development in the pouch a young marsupial becomes firmly attached to a mammary gland as development continues it becomes increasingly independent until it eventually leaves the pouch the world's largest marsupials are the kangaroos of australia modern mammals have successfully adapted to a wide variety of conditions the toothless anteater lives on ants and termites bats fly through the air fish like mammals are at home in the sea the sulphur bottom whale is the largest animal that now lives or has ever lived on earth other mammals are meat eaters still others are gnawing vegetarians or cud chewing vegetarians one group is distinguished by its grasping trunk another by its intelligence man belongs to this group these are the mammals distributed over the earth more widely than any other large animals descended from reptiles they have come to outnumber the reptiles filling environmental niches in water in the air and on land um so i think i got the copyright notification was claimed by sientifico del palo look it up um this is the copyright strike yeah it's some some band looks like yeah some mexican band i'm gonna have to uh tell them that they messed up um anyways yeah what is a mammal there you go uh that was an encyclopedia britannica film and there's other ones in that series there's also what is a fish and i'm sure there is a what is a reptile a reptile um let's see what do we got got so many things to show you i haven't shown something on the uh the scanner for a while which is right behind me so let's do that this film is beat red and i'm trying to figure out a way uh to tweak the colors better uh i'm using obs and there's only so many tools that they allow me to do so the colors never look right like i can adjust things in post and they look really good with resolve but i can't do it while i'm transferring so um i've got some ideas for some reason it's it add add even more equipment over here so i can maybe do this so that it looks better for you guys anyways uh this is in case of fire the title's clipped but you'll get the gist of it enjoy [Laughter] [Applause] whoa yes it's only a fire drill but the lessons you learn from fire drills can be the most important lessons you ever learn because someday somewhere they may save your life [Music] what have you learned to do in case of fire don't shout fire [Music] keep calm and remember the things you have learned that's the most do you stay calm and remember that there's another stairway at the other end of the building and you go there at a calm fast walk [Laughter] if everyone walks calmly and quickly everyone gets out side if the door is hot to the touch keep it closed rescue will probably come from the windows it takes flames a long time to burn through a strong door it's better to stay in the room and wait for rescue than to rush out into the flames and hot gases remember smoke and heat rise stay down the room will be coolest close to the floor wrapping something around your head helps to protect you from gets out fast but panic happens when people don't know what to do you know better your fire drills in school have taught you what to do everyone has learned at some time what to do in case of a fire the important thing is to remember what you've learned and stay calm enough to do it if fire should break out he shall meet no more either secretly or in public to worship in this ladies and gentlemen please leave the theater by the nearest exit please walk to the nearest exit you located the nearest exit when you sat down go out the closest way not the long way you came in wherever a fire breaks magnificent major because of those over-the-top wonderful musical pieces uh and that was um annyong tasha campbell who was later on martin and other films and television shows just really bringing it um but yeah anytime i have a fire safety film of course i want to show that or a film about books or if i'm just feeling like i want to see it um so i did uh i filed a dispute with the argentine uh funk i'm looking at their wikipedia page which is i don't know if it's if it's in portuguese or spanish but they are rock funk folk reggae it is that is the worst combination from my standpoint no interest in that type of music at all and basically what happened was they saw a super hippie that i had posted to the internet archive and they were like oh we're going to use this in our music video or somebody on their behalf said oh i'm going to use this music video they posted it to youtube and uh had it set up to for a copyright claim because yes it's chances are it's the music and i'm not making any claims on the music but youtube also looked at the visuals and said hey this guy who's uh has all these films who's doing a live stream is using footage from this uh argentine and uh rock video and so we're gonna stop it we're gonna put a stop to it even though i own the film i have the actual there's only one copy of this film that it was ever made or ever existed and i have it and so shame on you uh sientificos del palio i i you know i can't speak spanish or portuguese anyhow thanks for tuning in today uh very much appreciate uh you joining us and it seems like we're we still have archive that documents appalachian culture and they've been doing it since maybe the late 60s early 60s uh anyways they just endured a flood that flooded their film bowl i was told six feet of water in the film vault so that's this high and so that would that would you know that would take out a lot of what 80 geeks is about and that's what they are enduring they were very quick a bunch of archivists showed up volunteered to get the materials out of the muddy vault and to wash them off and process them and put them in storage cold storage so that they can be individually cleaned and maybe scanned and so if you donate you can also donate to that effort you can also find about other ways to help donate for the people that were flooded out other houses um which is pretty horrible so
