so so so so so so so so so so so so so so hello everybody i'm skip alzheimer welcome to the av geeks lunchtime streaming show um today's a special day well every day is special when i spend it with you um it's a greeting card right there uh today's a special day because we are watching we'll be watching our 1900th film uh so since we've been streaming um mid-march uh when we locked down for the pandemic the first time um we've been streaming films and you guys have been watching and it's been a lot of fun and it's been really great so we have watched um 1900 films now there have been duplicates in there there have been um some films that haven't been counted so it might be well past 1900 i don't know but uh i will send you a link to the actual list so you'll see what we have seen so far let me do that right now i'm copying the link and pasting it in there so um basically yeah we watch a bunch of films uh and so pretty exciting um so let's get let's get to it uh the next one we're gonna watch is getting along because that's what we want everybody to do is get along [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so do [Music] that was a short film we love it uh i see some of you looking in the notes um and seeing what i have shown in the past somebody asked do i count every time that we watch the uh shake hands danger uh remix and uh no i don't count those um because if we did it would be well over uh this next film is kind of an interesting thing and my what i want to say that has happened here is that they were trying to raise money to animate this and they didn't they ran out of money or they were just like well we just got to put this out it'll we have a deadline or we don't have any money so here's good health habits and now for our daily visit with johnny and mr dewright one morning johnny was awakened by the alarm clock good morning bart mr do-right johnny's dog morin said johnny as he jumped out of bed soon johnny was all dressed and he heard his mother calling him to breakfast so he ran downstairs gee i'm not hungry said johnny as he looked at his breakfast you'd better eat it said mr do-right breakfast is the most important meal of the day ah i don't need it to return johnny as he walked out the front door while they walked to school mr durright was telling johnny that he really needed his breakfast for energy and it would keep him on his toes and make him sharp later when johnny was in the classroom he found that mr durright was right and at recess he didn't even have the energy to play baseball with the rest of the kids then when lunchtime came he was so hungry he overate after lunch he was twice as dull as before because he was too full you should have stayed at home today for all the good you did at school said mr do-right as they trudged home that afternoon so take a tip from mr right always eat a good breakfast one day johnny was running over to see his friend stubby his dog mr dewright was running along behind when they got there stubby suggested the game a tag swell said johnny and the game was on stubby chased johnny all around the yard then mr dewrite chased them both soon it was johnny's turn to be it but mr dewrite puffed enough's enough i'm tired and you guys must be too ah we're not tired yell johnny let's play leapfrog swell said stubby makes me tired just watching you said mr do-right as he curled up and took a nap when the boys were through with their game of leapfrog mr do-right woke up to see that they were playing baseball you fella should relax a little you'll get over-tired and it's not good for you he barged ah what a week here they yelled as they hopped on their bikes and rode off toward the playground later when johnny came home he was too tired to eat his dinner and too tired to do his homework and he could also feel a cold coming on got you so take a tip from mr dewrite don't get over tired one cold afternoon johnny and stubby were inside the house working on their model airplanes let's turn the heat up said johnny it's getting cold in here good idea shivered stubby as he turned the heater up full blast i'll close these windows too said johnny meanwhile johnny's dog mr dewright was hurrying home to get in out of the cold i wonder what the kids are doing he thought as he started barking at the front door why don't they let me in he growled and then went right on barking johnny sleepily opened the door what's wrong with you bark mr do right running into the house johnny and i don't feel well said stubby oh no wonder you've got the heat on full blast with all the windows shut get a window open boy that fresh air sure smells good said stubby as he opened the window and johnny said yeah i feel better already lucky for you guys i came home when i did growled mr dewrite angrily or you would have been goners so take a tip from mr dewrite always keep a window open in a heated room one bright sunny day mr dureik was running and playing in stubby's yard while johnny and stubby were in the house reading comic books come on out and play yelled mr dewrite it's two nights a day to waste inside not now they answered without looking up boy i thought mr durai they don't know what they're missing and he chased a cat up a tree this is really living he barked as he ran past dubby's window quit making so much noise yell johnny we can hardly hear ourselves read ah what's the use grumbled mr due right as he went in and curled up at johnny's feet finally stubby got tired of reading so he tossed aside his comic book and said hey i'm getting kind of dopey me too yawn johnny let's go outside and play you couldn't get dopey dopier piped up mr dewrite you should have played while you could oh oh it's pouring down rain moon stubby as he looked out the window and we've read all the comic books added johnny sadly so take a tip from mr do-right get fresh air and exercise when you can one night johnny was looking at his comic books on the floor of the living room mr durright was there beside him catching a quick snooze he was awakened when johnny's mother came in to tell him it was time for bed oh gee can i just finish this one story i'm reading ask johnny all right but be sure you go right to bed after that said johnny's mother as she left the room after a while johnny had finished his story but mr dewrite noticed he had started another comic book hey he reminded johnny you promised to go to bed when you were through with that one story okay okay said johnny but as he left the room he took his comic books with him i'll just read them in bed he said to himself and mr dewrite will never know the difference so johnny stayed awake way past his bedtime reading one comic book after another and the next morning he was late for breakfast late for school and too sleepy and tired to play with stubby after school so take a tip from mr durright get plenty of rest one night stubby stayed over at johnny's house they had just climbed into bed when mr dewrite said you guys forgot to brush your teeth oh that's right said johnny and so he hopped out of bed and went to brush his teeth what about you stubby ask mr do right not me stubby replied i don't believe in that stuff you'll be sorry said mr do-right as he curled up to go to sleep they all slept soundly through the night the next morning johnny jumped out of bed and started brushing his teeth again what's the matter with you said stubby you just brushed your teeth last night now again this brushing will help to keep my teeth from getting cavity said johnny he also goes to the dentist twice a year to have his teeth checked mr do right added ah said stubby that's a lot of baloney so as more and more days and nights went by stubby continued to neglect his teeth and as a result he got a terrific toothache one day and after that he had to spend many hours in the dentist chair having his teeth fixed so take a tip from johnny and mr dewrite brush your teeth morning and night all right so that one my guess now that i watch it um i transferred it at some point and i was like what is the deal with this like you know because i've seen other films like this there's one on manners um which is the same type of thing it's just a series of uh sketch stills but in watching this i realized that these were psas that were shown on television um because you have that long uh frame at the end where it's silent where you could add chiron or you could put letters or you could have comments on there like this this message brought to you by the such fire department and our station um so that's what this is is it's a series of psas that were um i'm guessing this showed up in a so this did show up in buffalo public schools and so i'm wondering at some point the tv station just donated it and said here kids would like this or for some reason they ended up with it um but yeah fascinating fascinating stuff uh speaking of fascinating this film is is pretty great because it actually it's a magic moments film and as we know some of those dabble and fantasy and um feelings and all that but this one actually documents how kids would choose some of the different um things that games they would choose on who gets to pick first who gets to play first blah blah blah it's called choosing up and it's it's really um it's kind of fascinating and i don't know if the kids came up with this or the filmmakers came up with this so i don't know if this is um you know this is something that kids at that time in the late 60s early 70s weren't doing this and they were just told to do this via the filmmaker or this is they asked the kids like how do you choose up sides so this is called choosing up enjoy [Music] i got on i got even once i see shoe you got it one side shoot i got it once course i there were some that um i remember that they didn't show um the potatoes one um uh [Music] the the ones where you you kind of do a rhyme and you count there's a variety of different ones of those uh anyways hey colin thank you so much for the coffee um that's one way that we've kept going through the 1899 films that we have shown up to this point uh is coffee coffee that i drink through this delicious um french press that was uh it's a french press mug it's actually really great it's uh um it has like a screen in the bottom there and you put the grounds in here pull hot water in here and you let it um let it steep and then you press this down and then you get coffee coming on top and this uh i got one because a friend of mine designed it um and did a kickstarter campaign for it got 180 000 for it uh then this got bought by a manufacturer who makes them now but um it's i this is after i've broke a lot of french presses that were made out of glass um or poorly constructed and i have a real setup somebody suggested i show films from 1900 and i actually found a film called paris 1900 and so it's a series of newsreels uh and shorts that were shot in the early days of cinema um and has music on the on it and maybe some narration but um yeah so and it's not everything is not 1900 it certainly goes into probably the teens but um yeah here's paris 1900 uh it's a long film it's like probably an hour uh so we'll do i've got one reel that we'll do which is probably around 25 minutes or so and then i'll come back on and we'll see if we want to keep watching it all right enjoy happy 1900 everybody um you know we certainly showed the films but you guys watched it and you made it fun for me to show them and we'll just do another 1900 how about that here we go [Music] then reassured because he's nothing if not an optimist he's off again on another tour in tunisia he is received saluted entertained still smiling he is taken for something of a ride in short la president biancon michel lepine prefecture police is also happy at least for a policeman in paris he is opening a station for another railway full-sized in this case in america it is known as the subway in london as the underground in paris as the metro michilippine with his guests sets out on an inspection of this new kind of underworld [Music] new subterranean realm has launched a new style dream of imposing upon the slaves of fashion sheaths of heavy black silk queer asses of velvet coats of mail made of lace or jet clapiello has immortalized the faces of the great designers mr doye [Music] jacques ducey john worth caroline raboo mr roof was so well versed in the caprices of women [Music] but a brand new and shocking type of female the sports woman is emerging [Music] for obvious reasons and reasons she wants to be obvious she refuses to be imprisoned by long skirts public unveiling so to speak of the first girl in trousers creates a scandal [Music] but women everywhere are on the march since they are beginning to do the work of men it seems normal enough to have them wear masculine apparel london has women electricians paris it's women cabbies women are demanding a new life new rights too they want liberty and equality if not fraternity the suffrage movement is in full swing mrs pankhurst is their leader her hat may not be pretty but it's a statement of principles others elect to gain their ends in more feminine ways they prefer persuasion to mass meetings they find a sedate garden party an excellent means of weakening the stronger sex [Music] liberation is the slogan of the day liberation not only from male dictatorship but from the restraints of that even more painful tyrant the corset the gossip some insist is a bastille but its fall brings other problems such as how to keep skirts petticoats and stockings from falling too women may not yet be entirely free but at any rate they breathe more freely moreover they can compare their figures partially or fully liberated from that instrument of torture which authorities now condemn in the name of health a typical bromide of the period is our grandmothers didn't expose their calves on bicycles but somehow or other they stayed healthy another common remark is one can't help wondering what's left for her husband modesty is becoming a law staff celebrated or unknown the modern woman is eager to be photographed painted too marcel londer for instance the famous actress dancer with the chocolate cheeks the white face and the beautiful back with her are leon puji and caroline otero known as labelle otero otero is beautiful disturbing and disturbed as likely to dance at noon in the garden of an admirer as she is after midnight for the diners at the clappy departy [Music] [Music] is another publicized figure for the gay and lurid bohemia of toulouse low trent at the exposition she does an exotic dance from the far east although the purists insist it's not quite authentic they admit it's delightful and let it and her go at that [Music] eccentricities become commonplace [Music] paul bourget describes such sirens saying she arches her back about it to avoid me but really she pretends to be enraged well actually she is embracing me with her eyes here's a daring new french film about what love of course and the lover to whom a wall is no obstacle [Music] [Applause] [Music] his note sets off the desired conflagration [Music] the rendezvous finally takes place but moralists need not worry everyone will suffer [Music] in films plays and novels the dueling scene is a stuck in trade [Music] [Applause] [Music] but mr wheely whose successful vocal sketches refuses to take even love seriously willie is married to colette who is to become one of the most widely read french novelists interested in health they take the country such exercise is not without its peril perhaps it would be better if there were a sign reading keep off the grass follies more or is the call of the wild always responsible science true or false must share some of the blame as a means of curing psychic disturbances this doctor is obviously one of the professors disciples persuades his patient to describe the dreams which have been troubling [Music] and schizophrenic desire for revenge [Music] now at least it can be said of professor richie's follower but he doesn't drag out his cures having put her to sleep he wakes her in a hurry miraculously short time he has solved her deep rooted conflict professor cui has a simpler cure even america knows he's everyday in every way i'm getting better and better the french version is every day and every night i'm getting better and better many husbands have their wives photographed while asleep [Music] another fad women have themselves vaccinated in public [Music] this is also a man's town safe from intruding females they find one way of exercising without effort others discuss the latest books or sporting events tony de castellan husband of anagoo robert de montesquieu whose oddities proust transcribed pierre luis oscar wilde after his imprisonment still perfumed and idolized to max the venerated tragedian marcel proust novelist extraordinary he is brilliantly at work recording the social scene around him as the century advances it becomes clear that the parish of richard proust is changing as well as the franchisor
