everybody Welcome to the AV Geeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16 millimeter films um and look back with hindsight because we know everything now um we are watching a series of different films this is pre-recorded by the way and what we just watched was know your typewriter which was a silent film about learning your typewriter that was obviously shown to people primarily women who worked in offices and worked in the Steno pool or secretaries Etc um the next film we have set up here is Israeli boy life on the kibbutz and this film is is beat up but this holds a special place in my heart because I went to this party back a long time ago uh and it was a Hanukkah party even though no one there was really Jewish and I was asked to bring some films about Israel or about Hebrew life uh and so this is one of the films I showed and when I was there uh there was this woman there who I didn't know who said oh my gosh I saw this film when I was in school and I loved it and that woman was Katrina who ultimately became my wife so this was my Icebreaker uh into uh having a lifelong relationship with a woman who's very supportive with what I do because I showed a film about a kibbutz so here is uh Israeli boy life on the kibbutz and like I said this film is scratched super scratched but it's still pretty good enjoy house with our parents probably think that's strange but we do see them every afternoon and evening my little sister Tommy lives with a seven-year-old and my baby birth is Zohar stays with all the other babies in the kibbutz Nursery mother comes here to feed him every morning before she goes to work but I'll bet you're still wondering why we don't live with our parents well grandfather told me it All Began about 70 years ago once was set up in those days he said Israel was mostly swamp and desert the Pioneer had so much hard work to do that even the women had to work all day long so they chose special people like Fruity to take care of the children while the mother and fathers were working [Music] our way of life is special to Israel but not everyone in Israel lived this way Beauty has been taking care of us for five years already she really knows as well and I like living with all my friends there are 19 of us in this house I never get lonely archibots is called in Hebrew that means hell of life grandfather told me that when he came here he used to live in a small Hut there were only 10 people and the land was brown and dry [Applause] if you look at something we share with each other you see the Pioneers decided that it would live and work together they could grow more crops then after each Harvest they would divide upon that's still the way I could put this one today except now we grow much so we sell the rest and whatever profit we make we share the main thing archibutes does today is grow food a lot of it we even Cannon and make juice right here on our keyboard factories our main industry you must have heard of Jaffa Oranges they're famous all over the world we don't have to struggle anymore like Grandpa and the Pioneers did but it still takes a lot of work to keep boots going and there's a lot of far more that has to be done every day we can't go to town every time we need to buy or repair something so we have our own garage and machine shop and we can buy more things we need in the keyboard store even candy [Applause] everybody takes turns working in the kitchen and the dining room because on the kibbutz we share everything even jobs we don't like my father is in charge of the cotton field we have underground pipes that bring water to the fields and if there's only one sprinkler that's not working right Dad will find it he's a perfectionist and working in everything we fight a lot because he wants me to be perfect in everything I do but don't get me wrong we're great friends my mother makes drawing for the kibbutz architect he designs buildings for our keyboards and for other places in Israel mother and I get along real well she hardly ever loses her temper I go to school in the same house where we eat and sleep Alex are Math teachers from America we call him the astronaut because he always has his head in the clouds of all our subjects I like math the best and I'm one of the best in the class that's true makes dads happy this year we're also studying geography of the Middle East as you can see Israel is a very small country on the southern edge of the Mediterranean I also like arts and crafts a lot right now I'm weaving a rug the last one I made was kind of lopsided I wonder how this will turn up [Applause] at 10 30 every morning we have recess and snacks the boys always play football it's not like American football I think you'd call it soccer maybe I'll be a football player when I grow up that would be really great or maybe I'll go to college to study math and become an engineer Here Comes Gideon 3 they're home only from the Army when I'm 18 I'll have to join the Army for three years women do too but they go in for two years only the men also have reserve duty every year until they're 55. the kibbutz gave us children a small farm to take care of and three days a week we work here our parents want us to learn kibutes work now so when we're bigger we'll be ready to work with them we change jobs a lot so that we'll know about everything right now my job is feeding the cows you remember my roommate Emil don't you he takes care of the birds and Hanan is in charge of the horses I bet he thought Hanan was a girl it's because of his long hair when we finish our work on the farm we usually go swimming I've been in almost every competition I've even won 14 medals Israeli summers are really hot all the Mediterranean countries have a hot climb so in the summer we spend most of our free time at the pool oh yeah we all come to see our parents at about 4 30 in the afternoon [Music] family time for the Hokey boots we usually have a snack together in my parents house before dinner I just told Dad that I wanted to be a football player when I grow up do you know what he said absolutely not play basketball or Swim it's safer and don't talk with your mouth full Mac my dad I like to read the newspaper when dad's done with it if my little sister Tommy gives me a chance she doesn't like it when I ignore her sometimes she's a real pain in the neck I've been studying guitar for about a year [Music] detail foreign we all study Hebrew and English and dad knows English real well he was even in America all the families eat dinner together in the main dining room at seven o'clock I guess South is our national dish we eat it three times a day meat costs a lot so we eat chicken and turkey instead grandfather usually sits by me he's the one I've been telling you about he's my mother's father after dinner if there's nothing special to do we just fool around but every Friday night is special this is the beginning of our Sabbath it starts with a blessing over the candles the wine and the bread and then each of us say the prayer [Music] tweak a different family service our parents always come to see us at night to take us in this is an old custom two from the pioneer days rant buses Tommy goes to bed before I do foreign unless we can help it in Israel we work and go to school six days a week our Sabbath begins on Friday night at sundown and ends at sundown on Saturday it's mostly a family day [Music] in the afternoon dad and I usually go to a football game at the stadium nearby [Applause] grandfather always makes a huge special salad for us for Saturday night dinner the family always eats together with grandfather in his house on Saturday night grandpa is always talking about the tough old days he remembers when Tel Aviv used to be nothing but tether [Music] today is the largest city in Israel city is not far from Mark the book and we come here often to visit this world is not like America people come to sell here from all over the world but we are still a small country with only 3 million people one of the nicest things about Tel Aviv is that you can go swimming in the Mediterranean otherwise Tel Aviv is like any modern cities and most Israelis live just like people do in other cities but grandfather says that Tel Aviv was built overnight if you were here last year I bet you wouldn't recognize it anymore but I like the best when our family comes to Jerusalem it's my favorite city in all Israel and my best friend this is one of the Christian churches and this is the master Walmart one of the holiest Muslim shrines [Music] Jerusalem is called the holy city because it's holy to Christians Muslims and Jews Pilgrims from all over the world come here just to visit and pray this is the Wailing Wall one of the holiest places of the Jews I love the marketplace the smells the colors and the noise Arabs Israelis and thousands of tourists all come here to shop for bargains their own used to live in Arky boots but his family moved to the city three years ago and he wishes he could come back I don't blame him [Music] I hope ancient Jerusalem will never change okay as much as I love Jerusalem I'm really glad to get back home to my friends and the farm I'm happiest on our keyboard foreign [Music] yeah yeah that was great I think uh what church what Katrina told me was that she enjoyed um the film as a kid because she thought wow that would be really exciting you know to go live somewhere and you know live with other young people and kind of experience you know this culture so that's why it resonated with her all right the next one we have is a long one and this is also this is a Christian film called Marty's Moon ride and I got this on eBay and the description was just ludicrous it's about a kid who's obsessed with UFOs he's at summer camp and everybody's concerned about his soul So eventually they um convince him to be a Christian so here's uh the Epic 40-minute Marty's Moon ride uh in its 80s Christian Glory enjoy foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] it's not eggs McMuffin hey Jeff would you thank God for the food sure dear Lord thank you for this food and think that we could have a neat time camping like this and help Mr Davis as he tells us the things that we're going to do in Jesus name amen how do you dare just pray out loud like that with all the guys watching watching most people keep their eyes closed when they pray let's dig into that grub yeah thank you guys Jeff Eric come on let's eat foreign what is it this time Dreamboat I saw something last night something fantastic sure you did like yesterday on our hike you saw three deer except no one else did and you scared some of the guys away from swimming because you said you saw a water moccasin and cool it way Eric what'd you see toss man what'd you see I saw a spaceship a real UFO came down real close just like they were watching our camp maybe held all different colors of sights it is really something you saw what a spaceship came down real close just like they were watching her Camp Maybe it had all different colors of light it was really something was it from Mars or Jupiter maybe it came from the Sun why didn't you stick out your thumb already you could be the first space hitchhiker in history foreign I'll I'll explain today's activities today we're going to explore another part of the world as we learn through games to become more familiar with what guys your age do in other countries Dave has played a lot of cricket in his country and he's going to show us all about it today okay guys and that was already said the idea of the game of cricket is for you how's the batsman to defend the Wicked with the butt okay the idea of the Buller alternatively is to make you make a mistake so that you either knock the Bales off okay with the ball by him pulling it you either get caught out you either get hit on the legs with you standing in front of the Wicket or you could run out okay now in the game the feeling side has led mainly by the bowler Hill bowl from the sand okay he'll both six balls at a time six balls being what's called The Uber okay he's both from here coming up the technique being very different from baseball if he throws his arm or if he brings it across below shoulder height it doesn't count it must be over the top all the time he's trying to aim with this arm down the Wicket and Pitch this ball here just short of the batsman's feet okay moving on to the budding side the batsman when it comes up to the crease it will take a position to his legs side and set the butt down he line himself up against the baller the idea here is for him to defend the Wicket with the butt the Buller Bulls he positions himself ready watching the baller he can lift his butt if he likes just to get his timing the Buller Bulls he steps forward tries to play the ball away okay throw throw through water I backed on him well done okay ready this is real neat Mr Davis you guys getting the idea of the game sure have you seen Marty around I'm getting a little concerned about him no I got interested in cricket you know Jeff you're the kind of guy God could use to help somebody like Marty and he sure does need help I'll go look for him hey Marty get lost man this guy from Northern Ireland is showing us how to play cricket come on it's neat Marty's ball hits his thumbs you're out lousy game you're a lousy player hi foreign [Music] [Music] sure do Buy okay Eric will you read today's verse for us right here okay be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you Ephesians 4 32. okay anybody got an idea what that verse means don't all talk at once do you have any thoughts Jeff well like you said in Sunday school and like it says in the Bible Jesus forgave us before we were even born all we have to do is accept his forgiveness and accept him as our savior and another time we talked about well forgiving people means Maybe not getting mad at him in the first place or if somebody does stuff that you don't like instead of knocking the guy or make fun of them try to figure out why he does what he does once you said the reason people criticize is to cover up their own weaknesses would you read today's verse for us again dick sure be kind and compassionate to each other forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you what does it mean to be compassionate got an idea Ben isn't that like not looking for the people be kind of crashing it to one another forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you Lord show me how to be good to Marty show me how to help him okay turkey no spaceships tonight huh you don't believe me do you I'll tell you what you see any more spaceships wake me up wake him where is he come on guys hey look what just fell off the Moon [Music] foreign tell us about it Marty did you fight with some porcupine or you get ran over by some Farmer's tractor mower you go on might have firewood on a spaceship honestly did you guys honest I took a ride to the Moon I really did to the Moon follow me come here guys I want you to hold it right between yourself ain't that worth it the moon rise splashed off in 10 minutes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Mr Davis come on in Jeff [Music] could I change books with Eric I asked him and he said it's okay so you can help Marty sure sounds like a real good idea you eat the Bible every night two ever read it out loud sure I want me to read it out loud now This is Love not that we love God but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoming sacrifice for our sins dear friends since God loved us we also ought to love one another no one has ever seen God but if we love each other God lives in us and his love is made complete in US you understand that I'm beginning to Marty yeah are you a Christian foreign [Music] oh [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] come here hurry we just see it see what Marty let's go for a ride [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome so you see Jeff guys like Marty feel left out of things they think they have to act big to be noticed so they can feel important huh doesn't everybody want to feel important I guess so I know I do you think Marty shuffles do you think he does he must be something it makes them all grassy glassy eye then hmm you think Marty doesn't really see UFOs just imagine some you believe there are UFOs don't you just for David there's been lots of Psychics reported I don't think the problem is whether or not they're UFOs the real problem is our friend Marty do you think Marty knows the Lord I asked him if he did what did he say he didn't answer me the guys in our Sunday school class all say they're Christians except I guess Marty with the way they act sometimes sure makes you wonder makes Marty Wonder too that way with too many Christians isn't it yeah tell you what Jeff why don't you keep real close tabs on Marty for a couple days I sure would like to help him go on Marty they won't hurt you we'll just get scared and fly away come on come on don't worry come on [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] Marty's Moon ride tickets come on easy as can be Marty's the captain hurry hurry step right up sound like is it safe of course Marty's pilot stop it you blinker pets you don't Roy you're trying to kill me you couldn't even beat your sister and she's only two years old what a loser Marty always goes around like he's got his legs in a sack his legs you mean his head now look what you did come in may we use your phone just go right ahead my brother records all kinds of stuff it's his Hobby foreign [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] well you could be good at lots of things or you should start I mean you should give your heart to the Lord Jesus being a Christian doesn't make very much difference but most of the guys in our Sunday school class hey Jeff yeah what Marty oh nothing how are you gonna ask me well we don't believe I've been on a spaceship do you do you draw [Music] come on I'll show you that I'm telling the truth foreign that way this bishop comes from that way [Music] [Music] foreign you guys all claim to be Christian don't you sure do you think this was Christian it's just a joke Mr Davis a joke or were you trying to make Marty look foolish remember our Bible study about forgiveness Marty's the way he is very likely because of problems he had as a small child he needs our help would you kick a lame man because he couldn't walk or blind man because he couldn't see okay you guys hit the sack night I'll go find Marty I guess it is kind of me picking on them like we do you think we could get the guys let's go easy on them sure I was talking with Mr Davis we talked about whether there really are spaceships you know from other planets and stuff you don't believe I wrote on a spaceship I wouldn't lie to you honest the truth I wouldn't honest the truth Jeff we talked about how they're called UFOs and stuff like that you know what UFO means sure unidentified flying object Mr Davis said sometimes people are like unidentified flying objects they're sort of mixed up they don't know who they are they do crazy things to get attention you know what I mean people like that need the Lord to help them he made everybody for a special reason everybody's important to the Lord Marty get what I mean yeah let's go easy on Marty I mean he's not even a Christian yet we gotta help him right now put your foot right there you can put that one inside it come on come on Marty let's go come on hit that ball come on oh hey come here [Music] hey stop that's poison ivy foreign [Music] okay listen to these words again love must be sincere hate what is evil cling to what is good be devoted to one another in brotherly love honor one another above yourselves this is where it's at in the Christian Life fellas first of all really caring about each other our needs remember what we studied about the meaning of forgiveness that forgiveness includes not looking for bad things in others for things we can criticize or make fun of but remember you can't begin to live the Christian Life until you've received this life through personal faith in the Lord Jesus the guys are really being nice to Marty that'll make it a lot easier to help him if our theory is correct and I think it is if anything happens I'll come for you right away [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] wait wait [Music] wait wait [Music] [Music] [Music] hey Marty [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] riding them I've had dreams that seemed awfully real I was just walking in my street dreaming I've got quite a bit with Mr Davis you know if he's a psychology in high school things I need to go through a shrink to get my head experiment Mr Davis thinks you're a UFO I'm what remember how we talked the other night at UFO an unidentified flying object like you've told me you don't think you can be good at anything you think you're not important everybody's important Marty God doesn't make anybody that's unimportant walking in your sleep and having those dreams well that made you really feel like somebody but it was somebody you really aren't that's not the way you do it God has the only way when you trust in Jesus you can become what God wants you to be that's what's important like Mr Davis said the other day remember a guy could become the best football player or heavyweight champion or maybe a great scientist even the president but if you don't know Jesus I have become a Christian like you aren't you what you do is see yourself at the center like Mr Davis showed us from the Bible all sin right right you should believe in the Lord Jesus isn't that in the Bible sure is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and ye shall be saved I think I'd like to become a Christian do help me sure will Marty I even brought my new testament along [Music] [Music] wow I love that uh close encounter shirt that Marty was wearing and it's the Ken Anderson films uh I have a couple of those and they're all kind of weird like I have one called sizzling skateboards unfortunately it's really really beat up like it must have been shown a bunch it was trying to capitalize on the how popular skateboards were in popular culture and so this uh is similar it's trying to capitalize on the interest the kids have in you know flying saucers and UFOs and Supernatural types of things and trying to you know use those hooks to get them into uh giving their life to Jesus so did it work for you
