[Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] until modern times most of the light encountered by man has been of a certain kind the kind emitted from substances that are extremely hot light given off by the sun has basically the same characteristics as light given off by other heated [Music] substances [Music] the color of such light varies according to how hot the source becomes but the light always shows a continuous range of wavelengths when passed through a prism such light produces a continuous spectrum but not all objects produce continuous spectra this rock when exposed to ultraviolet radiation emits a discontinuous spectrum similar spectra are produced by all elements when properly excited when the element copper is placed in a flame a characteristic green color is given off the element strontium gives off a characteristic red color the strontium spectrum is limited to light of a few wavelengths here we see a discontinuous spectrum produced by a gas argon gas energized by an electric discharge neon gas can be energized in the same manner although the dominant color is red other wavelengths can be seen in the neon spectrum in an ordinary neon tube atoms give off light haphazardly in various directions at various times a more precisely regulated light known as coherent light is given off by the device known as a laser a laser is based upon the behavior of individual atoms if we pump energy into an atom we raise its energy level if we pump in more energy we excite it to a still higher level each time changing the structure of the atom when the energy of an atom is raised the atom is in an unstable state if left alone it will return to its ground state giving off the excess energy as light in a laser such light waves stimulate other energized atoms of the same kind to give off their light waves in step with the first a crude mechanical example of what happens can be demonstrated with pendulums we'll set one of them swinging eventually all of the pendulums having the same length as the first begin swinging in step similarly with atoms of different kinds in an excited state when one of them emits a light wave it stimulates the other atoms of the same kind to release their energy in step this is coherent light the process has come to be called light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation which is where the word laser comes from the intensity of laser light is built up by sending it back and forth down a tube having mirrors at both ends each time it passes down the tube it picks up more energy from the atoms the atoms must be continually re-energized from an outside source eventually the wave reaches a maximum intensity some of this energy passes through a partial mirror at one end while some of the energy is reflected back down the tube to keep the lasing process going here we see one end of a helium neon laser with one of the mirrors being screwed into place before the laser can give off amplified coherent light mirrors must be inserted at both ends and adjusted so that they're exactly parallel the light must be kept going back and forth within the tube without losing any out the sides when alignment is exact the light begins to build in intensity until lazing occurs now it's emitting a beam of coherent parallel radiation through the partial mirror graph paper placed a few feet from the end of the tube shows that the diameter of the beam fills less than four squares the diameter is the same when the paper is placed much farther from the laser the almost perfectly parallel beam is a distinctive feature of a laser another type of laser uses argon gas the amplified light is greenish blue characteristic of argon argon lasers can be made more powerful than helium neon lasers the intensity of this form of light is another distinctive feature of a laser unlike the helium neon laser argon lasers can function on more than one wavelength passing the beam through a prism shows that it is composed of several different wavelengths it's possible to adjust an argon laser so that it functions on many wavelengths simultaneously the laser can also be tuned to lays on only one color at a time by using a small prism at the end of the tube instead of a reflector the prism is rotated almost imperceptibly selecting light of a particular wavelength green blue blue green a still more powerful laser uses carbon dioxide gas the plasma glow in the tube results from an electric discharge that energizes atoms of gas so that lasing can occur the actual laser beam is infrared below the visible spectrum we can't see it but we can detect it the beam can be focused just like any other light beam directing the energy to a tiny spot enough concentration of energy to melt a razor blade [Applause] increasing the length of a laser increases the number of atoms that can be energized thus increasing its power [Applause] not all lasers are made of gas-filled tubes some are made of solid crystalline materials one such laser is composed of atrium aluminum garnet high intensity lights are directed at the crystal to pump the atoms to a higher energy level sealing the unit in a reflective casing maximizes the transfer of energy inside one of the best known laser crystals is the ruby a compound of aluminum oxide containing chromium atoms a xenon flash lamp is used to energize the atoms the ruby laser is also covered with a reflective shield to increase the efficiency of light transfer inside ruby lasers are pulsed they give off their energy in short bursts lasers are used industrially for precision welding and drilling doctors are using razors to perform surgery within the human eye the light can be focused within a transparent structure without damaging the surface as we can demonstrate using clear plastic another use of lasers is to make holograms photographs that can produce images of an object in three dimensions no lens is required all that's needed is a frame to hold photographic film on one side of the model and a laser on the other the light from the laser is split into two beams one beam strikes the model and is reflected the other beam goes directly to the film where the two beams meet they interfere with one another forming a hologram when the film has been developed it can be inserted into a frame and used to reproduce a view of the model as complete as the original now the model is gone only the hologram remains as a laser beam is passed through the hologram it appears as if the model is once more in place and can be seen from different viewpoints as we move across the film such photographs have tremendous potential for storing and comparing information about three-dimensional objects another use of lasers is in tunnel construction one problem in digging such a tunnel is in making it follow a straight line with a laser beam for linear guidance tunnels as long as two miles have been dug with a total deviation of less than one inch the unequaled straightness of a laser beam has wide use for the alignment of tunnels bridges and dams [Music] probably the most promising use of lasers is in communication experimental systems are using lasers to transmit messages because of the high frequency of light waves as compared to radio waves a single laser beam at least in theory can carry as many messages as are now being carried by all the radio television and telephone systems of the world combined today lasers are being used as tools of communications science medicine and industry but this is just a beginning the future will bring additional uses as well as deeper explorations of the scientific principles underlying the laser [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hello welcome i'm skip alzheimer welcome to our the av geeks lunchtime streaming show direct from my basement at my house uh not from the archive um i just wanted to point out uh for those of you who've been keeping track i actually moved the uh telecini here um it didn't work for a couple of days i was nervous that i broke it but i did some reseeding of cards and cables and such and we're back so that was uh lasers an introduction um somebody pointed out that they would have to take the word of the narrator for the colors because all the colors have faded to red and which i muted down to kind of a light red um that's the problem with some of these films is they are uh they've lost their color dye so um but i should say that watching lasers and introduction brought up all these memories of me as a kid which i was obsessed with lasers uh and i think i i was getting the edmond scientific uh catalog which had a whole section about lasers uh and just was like oh my gosh i can do this you know 200 i'll mow lawns you know just really just obsessed with it and you know the the end goal of course is that i wanted to make a weapon um of some sort um and felt that a laser could do that uh but now you know you could buy lasers little laser pointers which were probably the same strength as the edmund scientific lasers um that i was interested in so that's that has changed kids today you don't know how lucky you have it um but yes the idea of like burning uh things making them catch fire was super exciting to me all right um on that note uh this next film is made by baptista films and um i have quite a few films that were made for churches or religious markets uh that was a vibrant uh way to make money uh when you're making films baptista films actually helped make a projector um and kind of sort of this turnkey solution for people and they tended to be more evangelical um and so door to heaven which is this next film kind of explains this concept of heaven um and what is encumbering you keeping you from entering heaven here we go [Music] [Music] is [Music] doors are an essential part of our lives even more so than most of us realize doors enable us to enter our homes our schools our churches and our places of business without doors we would be locked out of many comforts and joys of life the ease and comfort of home opportunities for worship in church opportunities for work in the office there are many kinds of doors but all doors cannot be seen there is a door to knowledge that we call study there is a door to skill which we have labeled practice and a door to character we call discipline there is another door we cannot see one which is just as real it is the door to heaven jesus said i am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved there is only one door to heaven people would have us believe there are many doors to heaven some say the door to heaven is good works some say the door to heaven is good character others say the door to heaven is church membership and then there are those who insist that self-righteousness is the door to heaven many are indifferent to the life beyond and pay no attention to heaven's door some procrastinate meaning to enter heaven's door sometime but they cannot be concerned with it now to all such god says now is the accepted time now is the day of salvation but these doors lead only to destruction for god says there is none righteous no not one jesus said there is none good but god [Music] we can belong to many different churches but unless we are members of the true church which is the body of christ we are lost it is not for us to trust in our own righteousness the bible says not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy hath he saved us [Music] christ is the only door to heaven people have the idea that there is a special door to heaven for everyone but how can we attribute such folly to god when we would not even attribute it to ourselves none of us would build a home with special doors for each member of the family we all use the same doors and of course we know that the door which is large enough for the biggest one of the family is large enough for the smallest two so it is with heaven's door it is large enough to permit the biggest as well as the smallest sinner to enter if he but come seeking admittance in the name of jesus some doors can be entered only after a specified entrance fee is paid heaven's door is open to all without money and without price but just because we pay nothing to enter does not mean that no price was paid oftentimes great museums offer free admission to the public in spite of the fact that they have been built at enormous cost so it is with our entrance into heaven it is free to us but here is what it cost the lord jesus not silver and gold no precious stones but his own precious blood some doors are open only certain hours of the day heaven's door is open at all times night and day but despite these facts some will seek other ways to get into heaven the lord jesus has this to say of them he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold but climb it up some other way the same is a thief and a robber doors enable us to seek shelter from the storms of life and so the door to heaven enables us to find shelter from the storm of god's wrath [Music] it makes all the difference in the world which side of the door we're on the inside or the outside those who have chosen to enter heaven's door can never come under the wrath of god but those who remain outside the door are already under the wrath of god and must suffer the full force of the storm when it breaks which side of the door are you on most doors permit us to carry anything through them as we enter but heaven's door is very narrow and will permit us to take nothing with us no one can carry his sin into heaven those who will not forsake their sin cannot enter heaven's door but those who will allow the lord jesus to wash their sin away will be able to pass through heaven's door no one can enter heaven with a heart of unbelief only a heart that believes on the lord jesus will have entrance there men cannot take their riches with them at heaven's door we part with all earthly games earthly fame too must be forsaken at heaven's door even unsaved friends and loved ones must be left behind unless they can be one to the savior before it's too late but there are many things we shall leave behind gladly at heaven's door we part with sorrow forevermore we leave all suffering behind all disappointment too will be gone forever all worry will be left behind there is only one thing we can take with us through that door those whom we have led to the savior what a joy it would be to take into the savior's presence many whom we have won to him now during the day of grace the door of heaven is open wide and the savior's invitation to all is come enter in will you not answer that call will you not accept the lord jesus today and thereby become one of those who can enter heaven's door do not delay my friend for some day that door will close by god himself and no power on earth will be able to open it then you will seek in vain to enter then you will have only vain regrets because you did not enter while you could but praise be to god for his mercy toward the children of men heaven's door is still wide open won't you enter while you may won't you heed the words of the lord jesus when he says i am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved won't you accept him as your savior and there take your place among those who will someday pass through heaven's door into the beautiful city of gold sorry about that so the the new setup has has i i'm on a round table and on the other side of the table is the computer that i use for previewing and so i had to go mute speaker otherwise we'd get this annoying audio feedback that would really kill me uh yes uh somebody pointed out in the comments that i am encumbered by a film tell us any gear and so that might keep me from entering heaven through the door to heaven it's it's fascinating and and the the accent on the narrator is really quite something uh really save y'all the way he said savior was was really really quite quite nice all right so uh as i said i have the telecity and i have a film set up and let's let's start watching it are you ready um let me go ahead and start [Music] apples red apples growing on trees in an orchard [Music] of course apples aren't the only fruits that grow on trees farmers raise many different kinds of tree fruits like pears [Music] plums [Music] peaches and oranges [Music] some tree fruits like bananas are not common in the united states most bananas are grown in central and south america dates and figs are important free fruits in the middle east some of the fruit we eat grows on vines like grapes and watermelons some fruits grow on bushes like blueberries and raspberries berry fruits make good jams and jellies but what is a fruit well to a plant scientist a fruit is the part of a plant that contains the seeds this is the seed of a pear the pear fruit first was a pear blossom a flower fruits come from flowers these flowers will change into peaches these blossoms will change into cherries some fruits develop from flowers that are very tiny these flowers will change into grapes and this flower will change into a strawberry let's see how a flower becomes a fruit we'll begin with blossoms on an apple tree what we'll see in the next few seconds actually takes many weeks to happen after a fruit flower has bloomed it begins to change when the petals fall off you can see that a small fruit is forming many fruits are hard and green at first as the fruit ripens it usually gets larger many fruits also get softer juicier and sweeter and change color like this apple all this takes many weeks to happen most of the fruits that form from flowers contain seeds some fruits like pomegranates have hundreds of seeds other fruits like peaches have only one seed or pit there are some kinds of specially developed fruits that don't have any seeds at all like this seedless orange the fruit is harvested it may be put into boxes and sent to a marketplace many different kinds of fruit come here some fruits are very large watermelons grapefruits and some fruits are small cherries grapes some fruits are smooth plums and some are rough cantaloupe so the market is a busy place fruit comes in and fruit goes out the fruit that comes into markets like this one is shipped to stores and supermarkets have you ever walked through the fruit section in the store you can notice all the different colors and sizes and shapes of fruits fresh fruit is fun to eat but it's not the only kind of fruit you find in the store sometimes fruit is frozen so that it'll keep for a long time freezing is one of several ways of preserving fruits to keep them from spoiling but whether fruits are preserved or fresh we eat them not only because they taste good but because they're good for us fruits give us energy because of the sugar they contain fruits help our bodies grow well and work well because of the vitamins they contain and so we eat fruits because they're good to eat and good for us too another way to keep fruit from spoiling is by putting it into cans the cherries in this pie were preserved in a can and so we eat fruits in many ways because they're good to eat and good for us too sometimes instead of fruit fruit juices are preserved in cans like orange juice apple juice and grape juice and so we drink fruit juices because they're good for us some of the fruits we eat are dried to preserve them raisins are dried grapes we eat other dried fruits prunes are dried plums and so we eat fruits because they're good to eat and good for us too [Music] so great um yeah so this is a bunch of films that i've been pulling i basically am now going to go to the archive every so many days and pull some films um i have a question for one of our viewers thomas talbott are you around so please make yourself known uh on the comments um anyways this next film is another coronet film um i'm in the midst of doing a big deal with uh people that own cornet films now and trying to digitize a bunch of their films uh and put them online um and so potentially having 10 pallets worth of films thousands of films shipped to us so that we can scan them um so i've got cornet on the brain right now uh but this next film is a coordinate film and is narrated by rod serling post twilight zone and maybe around night gallery i'm not sure but uh the fact that it's he's narrating it just adds this extra level of creep creepiness to it like it's just unintended i'm sure i mean he's a great voice-over artist uh but he's you know he's carrying a lot of weight that twilight zone stuff you know everything he says you're listening to because it will you know negatively impact you in some way because you'll be thrown into another dimension or there'll be some sort of supernatural curse something related to whatever he's talking about so the fact that it's related to your new job it just makes it a little strange so here it is your new job they called yesterday said they had a job for you told you to come in this morning for the first time today you're going to work a brand new job is there something you should be prepared for is there something you should know that you don't that first day i was waiting you know sitting in an office and waiting and wondering i didn't know what to expect yes i remember the first day on my job quite well in fact i was very eager to go to work we were going to meet everybody it was scary the first day on my new job i was petrified i was nervous because it was the first time i worked with a big company i was afraid i was basically afraid scary everybody looked like they knew what they were doing and i felt like i would never know what you know how to do the things they were doing i was so frightened i just typed all day my fingers got so sore in this new job they were all people people of all different nationalities races when i came in i was very nervous they looked very hostile but i soon found out that they weren't so they do try to make you feel at home right away a little scared but it was also exciting it was my first job it wasn't bad it wasn't bad at all so many people here and you don't know who's who it was like the first day in school it was kind of hard you know you have all those papers to sign and it is confusing you know it turned out okay as you head for that first day's work you wonder what will your supervisor be like would you get enough time to get the hang of things to learn your job well everybody knew what they were doing and where they were going and i felt lost and self-conscious i didn't want to bother anybody i talked to some guy the first day and i didn't understand the word he said oh yes i made mistakes i'm a questioner i'll ask and anything i don't know i'll ask [Music] must have made a thousand mistakes i asked a lot of questions but that's how i learned excuse me could you please help me i'm new here and i only had a week's training i'd like to help you but i'm not in this section i don't understand what you're doing when you come in you really don't know anything you just gotta feel your way around [Music] i accepted a collect call when i wasn't supposed to but they're real nice to me about it are you having a problem oh yes i can't seem to find this here let me see certainly i made mistakes but everybody was helpful well here's what's wrong you're looking in the bimonthly section of the book and you should be looking in the monthly when you make mistakes on a new job you need people to help you out one other thing you have the wrong book the telephone at home you use it all the time but in the office it's different what are you supposed to say when the phone rings i can't talk too much yeah i've got too much to do no no i've got too much to do there's all this work here the telephone it's different from the phone at home i guess because it's business uh yes sir i believe he stepped out to lunch he should be back in about 30 minutes you may have me turn your call thank you yes ma'am i understand [Music] we'll try some people call this because they want to talk yes uh yes he's gone to lunch now may having returned your call please yes sir just as soon as he returns thank you you can't get any better i want to talk to your supervisor do you understand me i'm absolutely furious well he was upset he wasn't upset at me but i was the only person he could get a hold of i really want to know about this now will you get it together please sir no i'm sorry mr hardy's not here right now he stepped out he'll be back in about 30 minutes uh yes i believe he did thank you i wish he'd hurry up and come back it takes time that you get used to so many things to think about like what would happen if you did something wrong make a mistake or got to work late and your supervisor got on you for it everybody'd be watching you'd feel like an idiot [Music] i was unknowing as to what was going to happen and i did an awful lot of trembling because i had no idea what it was going to be like i don't want to talk about it from the first time i was called into the office was it a flabbergast i was utterly embarrassed i wanted to go home right then it was just terrible you're in for it now or what happened this time get your check on the way out i was expecting the worst what did i do now scared petrified nervous what's gonna happen helen this is a quick form and the quick way to do it and if there's anything we can do to help you it wasn't bad before and i wanted to do everything i can alan the only way you're going to learn is to ask questions and where you'll be working what about the people what will they be like will you make friends after all everyone there is going to be a stranger to you i have a thing i try not to judge people when i first see them would i fit in with the people and what they uh like me they were all strangers there was no one in the office at all that i knew so now i try not to judge people when i first see them it was rough for a while and then when everybody laughed i thought they were laughing at me [Music] i'm sorry there were so many people conservative people in between people freaked out people would you like to come and sit with us the people i worked with were very nice people [Music] there are so many different kinds of people here and most of them are young brothers barbara lynn chris rosemary kathy and lucy [Music] i bet you're glad it's break time a couple of people they're considered a bit snooty maybe but after you get to know him just to break the ice the new the new ice it was i guess they turned out to be quite nice people i'm close friends with a couple of them now everybody's new one so it's okay and finally when i did find a space i had to run all the way up the friends you make and the people are what really makes the job before you know it your first day is over a hodgepodge of faces words and places when you think about it later that night some things begin to fit into place you remember how nervous you were at the beginning of the day but we're so busy you forgot all about it and how easy it was once the supervisor had shown you how it was done how you begin to learn to use the tools of business like the telephone how your supervisor told you not to worry because she expects everyone to make mistakes when they first start that's one of the ways to learn how people went out of their way to be friendly and to make it easy for you and now this day's over and you're looking forward to [Music] tomorrow so i was wrong that was not a coronet film uh there are there are other films that are a series that seemed to be coordinate films but that was a sandler film um interesting i learned something new all the time bryant and stratton business institute huh anyways yeah uh rod sterling uh he shows up every once while there's another it's art of the motion picture where he also narrates and that seems a little bit more appropriate because he talks about filmmaking and story process and all that stuff and it doesn't feel as weird um but this uh next film i got is uh it's a film about perseverance i mean this last film was about perseverance but this one is the archetype that all other perseverance films look to or stories look to this is the little engine that could [Music] so once there was a little train of cars she was flying merrily across the country with a load of toys and who lived way over other side of the mountain her wheels went around ever so fast squealing along on the track and leaving the rails two two three choo-choo she was such a happy little train of cards so pleased with the load of toys she was carrying but all of a sudden right at the foot of the mountain the engine broke down the wheel slid along a little farther with a shrieking wailing cry and then stood perfectly still now how was the train to cross the mountain and get her toys over there to the children and what a wonderful load of toys the train was carrying rag dolls paper dolls china dolls little cloth dogs with shoe button eyes and celluloid cats and white fur bunnies and painted wooden horses and noah's arks and dolls houses and dolls furniture and rocking horses and tops and bats and balls and wagons and parts were they all to stay there packed away useless and the children on the other side of the mountain to go without them [Music] as a little train stood there hoping for help a long tortor came a great strong engine all finally cleaned up and black with his number plate scoured and shiny he had just finished his work of pulling a fine long passenger train and he was on his way back to the roundhouse now popping and blowing with pride [Music] oh big big engine cried the train will you please take us over the mountain will you help us help us help us help us but the big passenger engine pumped and snorted and blew off steam angrily it's not my business to pull such a little nobody as you he roared i pull much finer trains than you [Music] then he switched himself round on a side track he passed the poor little train of cars and soon left her helpless far behind but the little train of cars never stopped hoping that someone would come to help her pretty soon there came along a smaller engine he looked dingy and rusty and dusty and he didn't puff at all he just sighed and groaned grunted and rumbled and grumbled but the little train called out to him oh engine engine will you please take us over the mountain our engine is broken down and we're loaded with toys for the children on the other side will you help us help us help us then the dingy dusty rusty engine groaned and grunted and rumbled and grumbled i never could pull you over the mountain i haven't the strength i never could i never could i never could i never could i never could i never could then he dragged himself round on the side track he passed the poor little train of cars and soon left her helpless far behind still the little train of cars never stopped hoping that someone would come to help her after a long long time there came a little small engine it seemed quite useless to ask this little small engine for help yet the little small engine had such a bright and happy look and she was humming and hurrying along whistling and ringing her bell in the very liveliest fashion so the little train cried out little engine could you take us over the mountain our engine is broken down and we're loaded with toys for the children on the other side can you help us help us help us now the little small engine had never been far away from the freight yard or she had spent all her days in switching but she did not mean to let those children go without their toys if she could possibly help it so she answered i think i can i think i can i think i can then she came straight up to the train caught hold of her and began to tug and pull pretty soon ding dong ding dong pop pow the train of carves began to move slowly slowly and a little small engine as she toiled kept puffing i think i can i think i can slowly steadily she gains speed i think i can i think i can i think i can now she ran steadily up the tread i think i can i think i can i think i can i think i can i think i can i think i can i think i can at last she reached the top of the mountain and then she popped out joyously i thought i could there below on the other side lay a great big city the city where the children live to whom she was carrying the toys down she started rolling faster faster faster and as she went she sang merrily i thought i could i thought i could i thought i could i thought i could i thought i could i thought i could i thought i could i thought i i could i could i thought i could [Applause] and so the children got their toy and they learned one important lesson from the little engine there are many things that we can do if only we would try if only we would say i think i can [Music] i think i can i think i can i think i can i don't know was that motivational um does it still whole weight um i don't know i uh definitely i think it's blind uh enthusiasm that often pushes me to and has pushed me to the direction that i have gone thus far um and feel very lucky to have gotten uh to where i am but it's all due to folks like you tuning in and appreciating what i do um if i was doing this in a vacuum there's no way that i would have this machine behind me um you know some people still find value in historic images either watching them in venues like this or using them for b-roll in documentaries or you know there's so many other reasons and things reason that the films that i have still have value in spite of them all being destined for landfills and being thrown away uh so thank you for that it's it's your eyeballs that still give value to what i show in spite of how corny they are um this next film is it's an it's an odd one it is um i bought it on ebay and the problem with ebay is that people for a while and they're still maybe doing this they would clip up things flip up footage and this either came from someone who clipped up the footage and just pulled this segment out or this was there used to be people that just sold like vast amounts of just footage that they got from a lab and they would just go take something out of a box splice it onto something else splice it onto something else and you'd buy like a big reel of film it didn't even come on a reel it was just a flat thing where the the core was ticking out of it and you'd be careful that it wouldn't unravel in your hands and essentially you know you'd pay like 20 bucks and get all this crazy stuff that was segments and pieces and ins and outs and all this stuff um it's possible that somebody bought one of these and then pulled this segment out but this is very comparable to that film freeze in uh and there's another film i showed which was an internal for internal eyes only and this is for atlantic imperial gas but it's just this weird kind of like comedy segment is it funny yeah anyways it is an odd thing nonetheless and i appreciate uh you guys you'll appreciate the fact that this is such an odd thing so here it is uh i don't really have a title for it and it's atlantic imperial gas promo question mark here we go well just thought you might like to see that now of course it has nothing whatsoever to do with a clean carburetor but everybody needs a little lift at the beginning of the meeting thank you sherman gentlemen tonight from new hampshire to florida close to 10 000 dealers and their driveway salesmen are assembled to hear about our new atlantic in fact because of you dealers our customers now have the cleanest carburetors in town sir oh sir excuse me just a minute i've just got is this yours this is my carburetor it's a clean carburetor i'll fine true good carburetor it used to be dirty but atlantic imperial has made it a beautiful dependable part of the family car and useful too sir my life has changed i'm a changed woman babies change irregularly of course the grass is greener oh really now my [Music] that's enthusiasm well gentlemen our service to the public has been better than ever this year our position in the competition picture is improved in many markets we're a solid number one and our profits your profits have been greater [Music] we intend to make those profits even greater this year now you know that's a wonderful word profit the profit depends on a great many things mainly people satisfied people satisfied customers now remember last spring these satisfied customers [Music] go home everybody good gasoline thank you that car when he goes doesn't it yeah thank you [Music] during the past year through your efforts millions of motorists discover that atlantic imperial actually does clean carburetors and by so doing gives better performance your customers told you and we got it through thousands of unsolicited testimonials and so by the end of 1960 we were convinced that indeed millions did know about atlantic imperial well it was terrific it was like an avalanche gentleman a slow steady beginning a mounting crescendo more and more here and there everywhere millions now know and you know believe it or not even though there are millions who know there are millions more who should know and to prove this to you we went to great expense to employ this highly specialized technique that has been made popular through television we placed several hidden cameras in many of our marketing territories thus unseen by the customer our concealed cameramen were able to record some rather startling discoveries now here's what we found when we developed our film adam are you sure your carburetor is clean i beg your pardon young man don't get personal our ace cameraman in one very strategic location went on to win an academy award good morning so i thought with the imperial today hold it hold it i got the formula moans worked out pretty good for betsy and me all these years now give me uh 2.43 cents worth or it cleans my carburetor and a dollar ninety seven cents worth of regular that ain't quite half and half but it's a good one anyway and that uh you see it leaves me hey time for partner dr pepper complete secrecy and privacy was most necessary shall we fill her up with the atlantic imperial well no no no no she's driving but i could use a refill the hidden eye ever watchful shall we go with the imperial it'll clean your carburetor oh man clean my carburetor listen daddy oh like i'm on my way to the laundromat like you dig man like i can clean my own carburetor brad you know why is that it well as you can see you've been telling your customers the clean carburetor story but there are those customers you just can't reach let's figure this one out the clean carburetor story has been described by some as um well almost magic now i wonder how a magician would figure this out see i i remember a magician my old daddy told me about i wonder what dime in the parking lot [Music] hey listen how's things in strangeville charlie old horse charlie look here's the problem um can we be alone 45 yep so weird um it's it's such an odd thing and it appears and disappears somebody tacked on that the end on it so i don't know if somebody pulled it out of the film and then used it as a their own kind of for entertainment they'd put it on as a gag reel or i really don't know it's it's a really strange thing um uh you know it's if it had a title then it'd be something easier to track and figure out if it had credits it'd be easier but it's just this weird ebay anomaly just kind of showed up and that's the thing about collecting films is that they don't they don't have a neat provenance they don't always tell you like that's what this film is and this is who made it and sometimes it's just a dusty reel and you're just like what is this um so that's why i collect films because of these odd little treasures on little things but uh thank you
