that that is is hi everybody I am skip Alzheimer welcome to the avgeeks lunchtime streaming show where we watch old 16mm films and we watch some more of the UTS home movies uh I do not think that these are the UTS potato chip UTS but they're probably related to them because I think that these came from Pennsylvania and you know UT is in Pennsylvania I think that's right yeah um so they're kin they're related I don't know uh and yes uh kod Chrome Christmas Es are beautiful absolutely beautiful of course uh the funny thing is to get a beautiful Cod Chrome um you have to uh have flood lights inside and what that means is everybody when they look at the camera they're like this they're like I can't see um I think some of the best Christmas footage I've ever seen is like the father sets up so the kids come down the stairs and they basically run down the stairs and then they turn the corner and they're like facing the the flood lights and they're like ah they're totally blinded and then it's like trying to scramble um anyways another reason that I like uh kod Chrome uh Christmases is because you get to see well Christmas footage in general is you get to see what people got for Christmas and you get to see like oh I know that toy I had that toy um but honestly my favorite kod Chrome holiday is Halloween of course Halloween Cod Chrome is beautiful wonderful okay so behind me I got a scanner set up and we've been moving films out of the basement uh into storage units so that we can clean up the basement and try to waterproof it and climate climate control it and make it a better place to store films make it more film vaulty uh but anyways I found these this title I was like I don't know what this is let's watch it find out this is right on [Music] enjoy calling black people calling all black people man woman child wherever you are calling you urgent come in black people come in wherever you are Urgent calling you calling all black people calling all black people come in black people come on [Music] in as the movement what we're interested in doing doing is um you know turning black people on uh getting them interested in art you know being able to uh regardless of whether they buy you know are able to afford to buy a painting or what have you I have found that I express most of my ideas through figures anything I try to say I think of a individual because to me this is what it's all about you know that you relate to people one thing that uh I think is important is that black artists don't get too personal you know that I think that you have to say something to people and you have to say it in such a way that people understand it there are some things which are constant within the black experience which have to be dealt with and when these things are Incorporated within your work then you're really trying to establish a true afroamerican or africanamerican art a lot that U uh you know as black artists that how can one consider himself an artist and be so narrow as to only speak to one segment of the populace uh I think that uh you know that this isn't really a fair statement because uh when you're concerned with the Justice um with the liberation of one people then you have to be concerned with the liberation of all people that we've got to have strong people that are going to uh get up and start thinking about becoming men and women and not part of a cog in a machine I think that uh black man and the black woman has to work very very close together sure a female is part of the household and a male is part of the household but then again if there are things that have to be done outside then roles have to uh be uh dished out according to abilties to accomplish a job here I was interested in projecting an image of a very strong black woman not to say that uh because of the bullets and the Fist and what have you that I expect a woman to go out and start shooting or blowing up something or what have you what you're trying to do is stimulate thought to uh turn people on what you're going to do is present uh images uh positive images to like people regardless of whether they're called poster art or you know whatever it may be called if it turns people on if they come and look at it and uh they're right on in you and what have you then you have done it I wanted to write a poem that rhymes but Revolution doesn't lend itself to debing then my neighbor who thinks I hate asked do you ever write tree poems I like trees so I thought I'd write a beautiful Green Tree poet peaked from my window to check the image notice the schoolyard is covered with asphalt no green no trees grow in Manhattan then well I thought the sky I'll make a big blue sky for him but all the clouds have winged low since he was elected then I thought again and it occurred to me maybe I shouldn't ride at all but clean my gun and check my kerosene Supply perhaps these are not poetic times at all we're going to play a song for you uh that I wrote and it's called shushu and shushu is a French word it means uh something nice for somebody you like and I wrote it for my daughter my little girl she's a pretty big girl now but we want to play shushu [Music] still [Music] yeah [Music] e [Music] [Music] get [Music] in [Music] [Applause] where we stand now and where we look about now there's Beauty but long before that beauty sprouted I tell you there were great pains listen when first we began here the those years which seemed like yesterday yet so far away it was right here right now where we stand in the midst of this grass where then there was no grass I feel proud what we have here is some of our work for we happen to be artists but we are people first and about here what you will see is some of our children for we have 180 and it's growing faster St El Village to me and my proudness is our 180 children that come here to paint to sculpt and do paper maché my great proudness is a sense of accomplishment that the children are learning they range from the age of 2 to 19 years old and from being involved in their expressions discovering that they can can accomplish not yet that I feel that they will always be painters or sculptors but through their life they will know a sense of accomplishment and if you do not put out the first step if you do not plant the first seed which is your Birthright then truly you deny yourself and this is what is going on here in St elma's Village that every person is putting forth theirs consequently getting theirs it is through people and through our efforts here that allow us to meet as people it is not just painting here though that you see is paintings it is through paintings that we are extending are trying to Enlighten one to his awareness his day using his now this is part of our seed Our Roots truly all of our gut all of our ability this we have have created from nothing from a place of corrosion to a place of this [Music] beauty I want to go The North Wind [Music] I want to know thec [Music] yeah I want to go with the wild go go fly bird flying bird [Music] fly I want the clo over my head over my head my I don't want [Music] no I'm going to live [Music] until mother mother mother mother save your child [Music] [Music] beee mother mother mother the mother save your [Music] child I [Music] I the I want to see a rainb [Music] SK I will watch the CL yeah [Music] yeah make my Lord a little just a little Lord Lord Lord will I be tomorrow night [Applause] yeah then we're going [Music] around [Music] [Applause] [Music] then we [Music] going [Music] [Music] wow that was phenomenal this is why I like watching uh watching films from my collection uh beautiful beautiful uh footage um some names that we know some faces that we know it was that blackula uh what an amazing actor and presence he is uh and yeah this is yeah this is why we like watching stuff like this um and it was out of the blue so hooray okay where are we uh now let's go back to uh our crappy cornet films uh this next one is uh taking responsibility excuse me it's a series and it's kind of riting off of it was I think I feel like these are made in the 80s and there was a series that cornette did in the 50s called uh in 60s called beginning responsibility and so this is a taken responsibility and this has um usually it's animated so here we are this is a taking responsibility saying no to Danger enjoy [Music] maybe you and your friends are a little like our three pigs you live in the same neighborhood together you go to school together and you play together and maybe you're a lot like each other in many ways except when it comes to being safe while most of the things around you are safe there might be times when you or your friends come across something that isn't so safe even something that could hurt you a lot you find yourself near danger and that's where you and your friends might act differently maybe you'd be smart enough to say no to danger but maybe one of your friends would take a chance with danger or maybe another friend would simply go along and do a dangerous thing without thinking to keep from getting hurt when danger is near it's always smart to say no to danger most of the time saying no is very easy to do suppose you come to a deep hole like this although you'd like to take a closer look no one would have to tell you you're near [Music] danger if you fell in you'd probably get hurt badly you you wouldn't want that so most likely you'd get away from there fast and stay away but there might be other times when it's not so easy at first to stay away from danger accidents like this happen to everyone sometimes it's hard to stay away from a dangerous thing if you don't know it's dangerous but like everyone you can learn from accidents if something hurts you even once then you know it can be dangerous you don't have to learn a second time and once you know something is dangerous then it's easy to stay away but what if you can't tell if something is dangerous what if you find something that looks like it might be fun to play with but you're not sure it's safe you might wonder what you should do but actually it's very easy to decide just follow the this simple rule if you don't know don't take a chance often you can't tell just by looking at something if it can hurt you even if it's something that can hurt you badly so if it looks like it might be even a little dangerous ask an adult about it or just stay away from it don't take a chance here's another kind of chance no one should take suppose your friend is trying out your skateboard but he's thinking about something else he's not watching where he's going and he gets hurt in this case he knew about the danger but he wasn't being careful whenever you and your friends are doing something that you know can be dangerous you need to pay close attention to it you need to think carefully the whole time if you don't you're taking a chance with Danger and that's never a good idea but if you're careful and you pay attention saying no to danger is easy so when is it hard suppose you're near a building that's under construction in your neighborhood you know that places like that can be [Music] dangerous and that makes you want to leave but suppose one of your friends wants to play there anyway your other friend might be caught in the middle and might not know quite what to do if you're the one caught in the middle you feel a certain pressure a funny feeling that could be a danger signal which way should you go that's when saying no to Danger might not be easy one thing that can help you say no is this think carefully about what the danger might really be you know that anywhere there's building construction there are a lot of things to get hurt on bits of broken glass Nails sticking out of boards ladders sometimes Sharp Tools maybe even power tools it's not hard to imagine how someone could be harmed by these things once your friend has thought about the harm he might not feel so much pressure he would probably decide that since someone could get seriously hurt playing there would be just too dangerous and that he shouldn't do it if your friend decided this it wouldn't be easy but he'd be saying no to danger but there are times when it might be even harder for your friend to say no you know that walking on a high wall or fence is dangerous and that if you fall you could be really hurt [Music] but suppose your friend wants to show he's daring enough to do it maybe he thinks that others will like him better if he does it he wants very much to show off but he also knows that it could be dangerous once again he's caught between two things pushing him two different ways showing off for a friend and danger this time he might feel even more pressure than before because showing off for a friend might be really important to him again he might get that funny feeling that something is pushing him to do something he shouldn't that feeling is a warning it helps him by telling him that danger might be near and that something needs to be done about it just like before imagination can help too it's easy to think that no matter what you do you won't get hurt but sometimes people really do get hurt and sometimes badly your friend just needs to imagine what kind of harm could happen if something goes wrong and it could also be a big help for him to think of something else to do instead something that wouldn't be dangerous but even with all these things to help there still might be times when it's even harder to say no to Danger suppose for instance you're with your two friends and this time they both wanted do something they shouldn't suppose they both want to play someplace that's very dangerous and they want you to do it too you'd probably get that funny feeling again that tells you there's something wrong but the way your friends feel about you is important you don't want them to think you're chicken but at the same time you think it would be stupid to do something that would be dangerous what should you do first remember that there's nothing more important than your safety your safety is always more important than pleasing other people it's always smart to be safe although one of your friends may like to do dangerous things and makes Taking Chances look smart it doesn't look so smart when someone gets [Music] hurt that's when it's easy to see that doing dangerous things is stupid but how do you tell your friend you won't do something dangerous the best way to do it the easiest way is to say it in a strong voice no if you do that you won't look like someone who's scared instead you'll look like you know what you want and you're strong enough to say so there's one time especially when doing this is even more important than other times again suppose you're with a group of friends and some of them want to do something very dangerous like playing with [Music] matches you get that funny feeling again that tells you there's something wrong you know there could be a lot of danger but at the same time these friends try to talk you into lighting a match when something like this happens you should think about what your other friends are probably thinking most likely some of them have that funny feeling too they might not want to go along anymore than you do they might be looking for someone strong enough to say no no so if you say no to the danger you could actually be doing your friends a favor in fact one of them might even tell you something like I wanted to say no too but I didn't because I thought nobody else would so if it's difficult for you to say no to Danger sometimes just remember it's the smart thing to do and who knows you might even make a special friend that [Music] way [Music] I can check that gear in a minute so don't touch anything [Music] okay hey get down from there [Music] now hey turn it over what if it bumped that control by accident you'd be minc meat by now what have I told you you don't work on equipment when the engine's running what told him not to touch anything all right I guess I wasn't thinking you weren't thinking you mean you'll work on engines and machinery and not think of your own personal safety here shake hands with danger shake hands with danger meet a man you ought to know I used to laugh at safety now they call me three finger [Music] J I was young and fisty never did things by the book just let me get my T box and I'll take myself a look I climbed up on a do here with my mechanic's Pride said you can keep it running friend while I poke around inside shake hands with danger need a guy you ought to know I used to laugh at safety now they call me three finger Joe although I learned a lesson I forgot it soon enough the Nicks Burns and scratches showed the young ones I was tough till another morning I was grinding on some steel my other hand got careless and fed my skin into the wheel shake hands with danger step right up and say hello grinding wheels in metal are what made me three finger jail I've seen mechanics burning and I've seen them take a fall just to save themselves a minute I've seen them lose it all I've watched them courting trouble seen them take a chance and lose they get careless for a moment and spend a lifetime with the [Music] [Applause] Blues [Music] sh hands with [Music] danger she with [Music] [Music] around [Music] inside inside [Music] danger walk around ins shake hands danger around [Music] inside [Music] shake hands with danger and some friends I Used to Know compared to them I'm lucky to be just three finger [Music] [Laughter] Joe you asked for it and it's been a while I was going to try to go the whole month without um playing those two songs that I keep playing but um turn that up a little bit um yeah I couldn't help it you guys were asking for it and I was like you know what it kind of works um so yeah all right so behind me I have another film on the scanner uh and I'm Gonna Keep striving to try to do at least two films on the scanner uh it it depends on what's going on like yesterday I didn't do any cuz I had this computer behind me which is hooked to the scanner was working on something else which helps me pay the bills so that's why we did that so anyways uh this one was another one that we were moving shelves on and I was like hm this sounds interesting this is about your mind the powers of your mind it's called s PSI boundaries of your mind of the Mind [Music] enjoy on on rout traffic control [Music] 1287 Hold Steady pleas at 19,000 ft why did you do that Ru I don't know I just felt uncomfortable see something down there no there's nothing there see how did you know I wish I knew throughout history people have been perplexed by events they couldn't explain by dreams that seem to predict the future by the ability to Envision distant [Music] events what's the matter I have the strangest feeling Jerry's been in a car accident now come on hone don't be silly let's go have some dinner all right sure very often those premonitions turn out to be nothing more than an overactive imagination hello but there are hundreds of cases where extra sensory perceptions have been recorded and verified most people feel that the only things that influence them are the things that come into the senses the things they can taste hear touch feel or see well we have evidence that there's something more than that this thing that we call saigh which can influence people without the use of the senses scientists believe that sigh is a means of communication that we don't yet understand when we take in information through sa means it is known as extrasensory perception es when we send out information without the use of our muscles that's known as psychokinesis or PK but no matter whether the Sigh is ESP or PK these experiences are so far from what we consider normal that it's hard to accept that these things could actually take place what we know of ESP does not fit in with the current scientific framework now we have uh very good evidence that ESP and other side phenomena do occur so the obvious conclusion is that the current scientific framework is fundamentally incomplete now this isn't particularly surprising science is always changing science is a dynamic process and it really only represents the the current best guess as to the nature of the universe since earliest times man has tried to recognize and control the Unseen forces around him those he could understand and those he could not for a long time most of the world was heavily influenced by fortune tellers and mediums and by folklore and myth but superstitions faded away in the 19th century scientists like Madame cury began to explain away the Mysteries with a new rational way of thinking the world embraced science science made industry possible and Industry produced material Comforts The mediums and fortune tellers could never provide [Music] in the bustle of the new scientific age the Western World dismissed things like ESP as unscientific not until the 1930s did Serious researchers such as JB and Louisa Ry perform well-controlled experiments with ESP their work showed that ESP does exist but most people still found it difficult to accept ESP as a reality people are suspicious of ESP because so many apparently real demonstrations turn out to be just clever trickery and I'll write them down on the back of this now just think about it for a second do you have the two initials in your mind now okay okay concentrate on the second initial now okay I think I have it I think I have it if you you'll announce your choice to the audience and I'll reveal what I've written SB that's exactly what I've written here exactly it looked as though I was reading her mind but I wasn't in fact I wrote nothing with a pencil instead after she called out the initials I simply wrote the initials down with a pencil attached to my thumbnail like this the tricks as simple as that and when supposed psychic events are not tricks they often are just ordinary occurrences that have simple explanations Laura look this is incredible 10,000 people died in an earthquake in South America last night and I dreamt about it I'm clar voyant I have ESP B don't you remember you went to bed early last night I stayed up and I watched the late news that was on the news last night you heard it in your sleep you're not Clairvoyant I guess you're right I'm not yet verifiable sigh events do take place and scientists are now beginning to theorize about how these phenomena occur hey Charlie from what we've seen we believe that people may be scanning their environment pretty much all of the time scanning with sigh in order to discover things out there that are related to their interest related to their concerns and when they discover these things via this unconscious SI means they react to them it begins to influence their actions in some way they are usually not aware of this it's quite unconscious it's it's very subtle but there's a definite influence on their Behavior it seems luck or coincidence may be the only Factor that's involved in this type of incident but we think there may be another Factor namely sigh some Sai Research Laboratories are seeking to discover under what conditions ESP can be repeated most reliably this experiment was filmed as it actually happened at my manad medical center in Brooklyn Ellen Messer has volunteered to be the subject in this test Sharon Harper will try to send images to Ellen from a room down the hall the images she sends will be from A View Master slide wheel taken from a packet chosen at random now each packet contains four different slide reels as you can see and the sender will only send one of these reels all right I'm going to be in a room at the end of the hallway yeah I'll be looking at some slides which I'll try to send to you researchers have discovered that most DP experiences occur when people are very relaxed or are dreaming really relaxed and and you've been uh giving your imagery pingpong balls over her eyes break up the normal patterns of visual perception I've done this before it usually works very a monotonous hissing through the earphones quiets her perceptions of sound and we're going to leave and we're going to start the session okay these preparations serve to diminish the normal senses making the mind more receptive to internal imagery thanks a lot we're already ready okay Sharon here's the Target have a good session thank you at this point no one knows what slides are in the packet after after 10 minutes of relaxation Sharon selects one slide wheel from the [Music] packet I see some kind of um tubular structure over my head like a almost like an elevated Subway and I'm driving in the car beneath it and I see a lot of red lights as if I was in an airplane looking down at the road and there were trees on both sides of it it looked as if it was carved from a mountain and I was looking at it an aerial view Cliffs very high craggy Cliffs and the waters down to my left different bar relief pictures on the walls actually on Stone image that keeps coming back is driving down that road with the red lights and the tubular structure above my head and keeps returning turning again and again and again okay fine okay I'll just give you you know take after half an hour Ellen is brought in to look at the slidewheel packet at this point only Sharon knows which slide wheeel was viewed during the experiment both in bed knobs and uh broomsticks and in the cathedrals of the world there's a picture the one with the arch I don't know why this one seems kind of familiar it's the the one with the arch but this is my first inclination when you first came in yeah when I first it was just something about this it's my first inclination is uh cathedrals of the of Europe do you want me to write that as one write that as one okay bed knobs and bom sticks is too your Woods will be free birds of the the world before I guess that's my order okay I guess we should get Sharon in here to um tell us what it was hi hi why don't you tell us what it was it was Cathedral hey another direct fantastic you know she came right in here and said there is one chance in four that Ellen could have made a lucky guess but the group at myones has repeated this procedure more than 200 times and Report direct hits in 44% of the experiments the odds against that happening strictly by chance are 100 million to one so great it's not only Sai that remains mysterious we really still know very little about the normal functions of mind for example uh memory where is memory we talk of memory banks but we have not yet located memory in the brain one of the world's leading neurophysiologists for example Sir John Eckles uh who uh won a Nobel Prize for his work in neurophysiology has repeatedly warned that we should stop pretending that Consciousness is not a mystery at Stanford Research Institute one of the goals is to determine whether Sai information is transmitted via some type of radio wave or magnetic field or other means this experiment is part of a series of remote viewing trials Gordon Sheridan who has volunteered for this test chats with Dr Russell tar in the laboratory as Dr Harold Poff receives a randomly selected Target location from a senior SRI executive accompanied by our photographer he leaves the Institute opens the envelope and drives to the Target location at the laboratory the subject tries to visualize the area Dr poof is viewing there's a building to their left there's some trees to their very close to a dark brown Building look around at the building do you see anything else in the neighborhood of that building that might be interesting there's a um some Hedges between the sidewalk and a parking lot maybe like to draw what that looks like okay world's worst artist by comparing what the subjects visualize and the actual targets Sr scientists hope to learn much more about such factors as the distance over which Sai communication can function at the time this film was produced SRI had published results of 53 remote viewing experiments and independent judges had correctly matched Targets in over half of them we know that we have something we know that Sai is real that it works but we have not yet discovered the mechanism underlying it well we assume that when Sai events occur there must be corresponding events going on in the body and particularly in the brain and the question is whether we can learn something about those events by studying the processes that we can measure at the surface of the body during the experiment you'll be relaxing down in the basement in our room which is over that way about 150 ft and we'll be recording your EEG and occasionally the computer will be turning on this light up here in this room get an idea what that looks like the room will be very dark and it'll be a good good bright flash and we'd like you to try and get a sense of what's Happening up here and then after each trial you'll be asked to give your guess about what you thought was occurring whether the light was on or off okay Steve we're all set now now we can take the signals from your scalp and they'll come down the wire down into the board out into the polygraph and up to our computer okay all set every 20 seconds or so the computer upstairs decides to either Flash the strobe light or not to flash it downstairs Steve's job is to visualize what's happening with the strobe and indicate his guess by pressing the button so what we're really interested in is seeing whether even even in the event that he himself doesn't consciously know what's happening maybe his brain in some sense does so that's what the experiment is all about we've we've run five sessions of an experiment like this and we do have some preliminary evidence that when the light comes on changes occur in the EEG that'll like the changes you would see if the light were flashed right at the subject that is in his physical presence okay here the work at Duke is significant for two reasons first it is helping to explain some of the basic mechanisms involved in sigh but even more important the work has attracted researchers from a variety of disciplines they recognize that Sai represents a totally new frontier in science these scientists and their colleagues throughout the world have come to believe that if the fundamental workings of Sai can be understood and controlled then it may be possible for perhaps the first time in the history of mankind to vastly expand the horizons and boundaries of the [Music] [Music] Mind [Music] wow worse than wondercat someone in the comments says that this was worse than wondercat I mean it was so 10-year-old skip or 11-year-old skip would have eaten this up totally would have eaten this up like cuz that was what was going on like I we'd be watching in search of uh you know I'd love all this stuff um as an adult it's interesting to me because it is something that uh you know how does science not quite do what it's supposed to be doing wow worse than Uncle Smiley holy cow you guys are nuts anyways uh small anecdote uh so Ryan Institute is uh what was part of the Duke University uh sigh experiments and now they have they're SE they've separated Duke's like no yeah n yeah yeah yeah you got to go somewhere else anyways I was called in as a consultant to go through their films and to put together for a grant they were trying to get a grant to get their stuff digitized and so like they super nice people uh you know still trying to do research I don't know where they get their grant money from but um you know half they didn't eventually get the grant but half of me is like man I just want to go over there and just help them digitize all their stuff just because it just fascinates me the 10-year-old skip is like oo oo you know but anyways um yeah 70s all that stuff was whacked out all that wacky New Age stuff that turned into cult stuff etc etc um thanks for tuning in today uh very much appreciate your comments and we got to see some awesome stuff right I mean even if you didn't really like the Sigh boundaries of the mind I mean you know it's it's a dated interesting thing and it certainly has bounce back in other other um horrible Discovery Channel shows um in other uh stuff so anyways uh if you like what you saw hit the thumbs up hit the like you can go to uh use a super thanks button to say uh thank you with a little bit of cash a little bit of Moola you can go to ko-fi.com avgeeks or patreon.com avgeeks those are other ways that you can support us um but yeah we'll be back tomorrow tomorrow's Friday right I'll be burned through this uh this week um Everybody Take Care um hopefully you're not caught in a bunch of snow and ice and uh we'll see you soon bye
