Description: Portrays the life of Vincent Van Gogh, considered the most personally expressive of the Impressionists, from his departure from Holland to his death in Auvers, France in 1890. After early, unsuccessful work as a pastor, he painted "The Potato Eaters" as a tribute to the peasants who had been his parishoners, then moved to Paris to be with his brother Theo. Influenced by the Impressionists, he soon moved to Arles and experienced a burst of creativity during which he painted landscapes and his famous sunflowers. As his mental and physical health deteriorated, Van Gogh's continued to paint now haunting and desolate landscapes until his suicide at age 47, having sold only one painting.
