Description: The purpose of this program is to present an assessment consultation between Drs. Don Jackson and Ruth Peachey, the Hillcrest family therapist. In this presentation Dr. Jackson presents his reactions to the family and the family members. Although he normally does not see the children in such a session, he felt it was interesting to watch the interaction of this family group. While most of the problems are supposedly concerning the child Bruce, Dr. Jackson finds that he is standing off to one side and being kept away from his father by Carol, the mother. He sees Carol as "acting" helpless while really controlling Norman the father and the rest of the family, and Norman as being afraid to assert himself with Carol. Dr. Jackson sees little evidence of combat between Sonia and Lisa. Dr. Jackson sees this family as hiving a marital problem because they are "a honeymoon couple who happen to be stuck with a bunch of kids." He recommends that since the problems are supposed to be with Bruce and his feelings about his mother this might be resolved if Bruce contacts or visits his mother. In any event, he feels that the parents should be seen alone in counseling sessions
