Scenes of rehearsal at the Peking Opera are intertwined with the cast and directors who explain how the stylized stories and movements of the performers have been adapted and revised to reflect the concerns of Chinese workers. A nonnarrated sequence presenting the acrobats in an energetic workout, is followed by a dress rehearsal which features a colorful ribbon dance.
