Description: Through dramatic case histories and visually explicit sequences, this film teaches the viewer how to recognize a survival situation. A man stuck on a remote winter road abandons his vehicle and hikes until hypothermia kills him. A cross-country skier injures a leg, but is successfully treated by her companion, who makes the patient warm and comfortable until help arrives, a result of them prudently telling someone where they were headed. Two snowmobilers stuck in the boondocks when their sled breaks down wisely build a lean-to, prepare three signal blazes, snare a hare, and are finally saved by a search plane attracted by the fires, and reflection from a heliograph mirror.
