A poignant drama concerning the resettlement of a Vietnamese family into a northern North American city. The Tran family has been attacked by Thailand pirates, lost a son to sharks, and finally after 18 months of internment, brought to North America by a sponsor group. At the military processing center, they wonder if they are yet free. The core of the story focuses on Anh, the wife and mother, as she tries to adjust to the brutal climate, the foreign culture and the tragic circumstances of her past. For the Vietnamese, the experience has to do with freedom and the will to survive for the sponsors, the issue is the extent and depth of commitment.
