Description: In this experimental film, Marker dissolves the distinctions between fiction and non-fiction film by re-filtering and synthesizing sounds and imagery and by offering the viewer the sensation of simultaneoulsy spanning the globe and traversing the landscape of the mind. A compilation of images drawn from various locales - Japan, Africa, Iceland, California - are overlaid, juxtaposed and intertwined with cameraman Sandor Krasna's thoughts on film, memory, time, survival and other subjects. The act of linking and structuring becomes not only the film's subject but also the task of the spectator. Krasna claims to be despatching his letters from another world. The world in question is that of appearances, a marker on the road to the year 4001, envisaged in terms of total recall when the equivalent of the Bible will be an eternal magnetic tape of a time that will have to re-read itself constantly, just to know it existed.
