Description: Presents Dr Bruce Denner of Governors State University, Illinois, interpreting the Otto case study film from the psychoanalytic perspective. Tells how he believes that Otto is not coping with getting old and how he sees Otto moving away from mature reactions, over-reacting and using defense mechanisms. Discusses how, according to Dr Denner, the reality principle has broken down for Otto and how, as Otto's analyst, Dr Denner would act as a transfer figure, taking on properties of early figures in Otto's life so Otto could work out his early conflicts.
