Otto: The Psychoanalytic Perspective

Presents Dr. Bruce Denner of Governors State University, Illinois, as he interprets the Otto case study film from the psychoanalytic perspective. Explains that Dr. Denner believes Otto is not coping with getting old and that he sees Otto moving away from mature reactions, over-reacting, and using defense mechanisms. Reports that, for Otto, the reality principle has broken down and that, as Otto's analyst, Dr. Denner would act as a transfer figure and take on properties of early figures in Otto's life so that Otto could work out his early conflicts.
