Description: Teaching Film Custodians classroom film of excerpts from the 1949 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer feature film, "That Forsyte Woman", based on book 1 of "The Forsyte Saga" by John Galsworthy. Introduces the principal characters of the three books of John Galsworthy's "Forsyte Saga". The settings and costumes establish the Victorian atmosphere of Galsworthy's novels. The courtship of Irene Herrenford by Soames Forsyte is sketched briefly, revealing the values he, like others of his family, attach to material possessions and social status., Abridged from That Forsyte Woman, this film introduces the members of the Forstye family as depicted in John Galsworthy's Book I of the Forsyte Saga with scenes of a family gathering and the courtships of Soames and Irene and Philip and June. Portrays character conflict and development as centering around differences in attitude to social status between the older and younger generations.
