Description: Teaching Film Custodians classroom film of excerpts from the 1947 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer feature film, "The Sea of Grass". A dramatization of the staking of claims by settlers in the New Mexico Territory, emphasizing the right of the majority to prevail in the acquisition of government land and the necessity to accept responsibility for conserving the natural resources of their claims. When a wealthy cattleman protests the plowing up of the precious sod, he is overruled by the courts and forced to allow settlers on land he has controlled. Final scenes indicate the terrifying dust bowl conditions later created by prolonged droughts.
