Description: Teaching Film Custodians abridged classroom version of a Cavalcade of America television episode, "The Palmetto Conspiracy" (season 3, episode 25), which first aired June 7th, 1955 on ABC-TV. On a mission to prevent sabotage of the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Baltimore Railway by Southern sympathizers in 1861, Allan Pinkerton of the International Detective Agency, uncovers a plot by Baltimore secessionist fanatics to assassinate President-elect Lincoln as he passes through the city on the way to his inauguration. Pinkerton arranges with Lincoln to change the published schedule of his trip, isolates Baltimore from telegraphic communication to forestall any warning by the plotters' agents in Philadelphia, and accompanies Lincoln as his bodyguard through Baltimore in the early hours of the morning of February 23, 1861.
