A small boy idolizes his big brother Homer, who answers his questions, helps him in his difficulties, rescues him from a frightening situation and restores his sense of security., In this excerpt from The Human Comedy, Homer and his little brother get up in the morning and talk together. Later in the day the little brother gets lost and frightened, but Homer finds and comforts him, and brings him home, singing, on the handlebars of his bicycle.
