The Restless Earth: Plate Tectonics Theory

Explains plate theory by using models, examining scientific experiments, and visiting geological sites throughout the world. Describes the outer covering of the earth as being made up of plates, about 40 miles thick, moving at a rate of one or two inches per year. Observes that this movement is caused by the earth's internal heat and that because these plates are either separating or coming into contact with each other they are responsible for such phenomena as the formation of new oceans, earthquakes, and volcanoes.
