Description: Teaching Film Custodians abridged classroom version of a Cavalcade of America television series episode, "The Man Who Took a Chance" (season 1, episode 3), which first aired October 29th, 1952 on NBC-TV. Dramatizes events from the life of Eli Whitney, the Connecticut machinist and inventor, who postponed production of his cotton gin in 1798 to prove that his assembly line theory (mass production of interchangeable parts) could be used in the mass production of muskets for the United States Army.
