Traces the development of human sexual identity from the influence of prenatal sex hormones in the uterus to the external influence of family and society which help to shape perceptions of what is feminine and what is masculine. Presents Jerome Kagan, Professor of Developmental Psychology at Harvard, discussing how children acquire gender and role identity; teenagers describing the peer pressure they experience to have early sexual relations; and homosexuals explaining how they view themselves in relation to the standards of society. Explores man/woman roles in marriage, menopause, sex, and old age.
