Description: Shows several models to illustrate both the bulk motion and random motion of molecules. Shows their interconnection as the energy of bulk motion. Discusses thermal conduction and absolute temperature scale. For more info on PSSC films and their history, visit http://www.afana.org/psscfilms.htm

Complete Record: Shows several models to illustrate both the bulk motion and random motion of molecules. Shows their interconnection as the energy of bulk motion. Discusses thermal conduction and absolute temperature scale. For more info on PSSC films and their history, visit http://www.afana.org/psscfilms.htm Shows several models to visualize both bulk motion and the random motion of molecules. Presents an inter-connection between both types of motion as energy of bulk motion turns to thermal energy of random motion. Demonstrates random motion and how such motion can average out to a smooth effect; presents a model of thermal conduction; and uses a dry ice disc and small steel balls, in which bulk mechanical energy of the disc is converted to "thermal" energy of random motion of the balls. Develops a temperature scale by immersing canisters of two gases in baths of various temperatures. Demonstrations by Jerrold R. Zacherias, MIT.
