partner over there not me my partner is waiting would you be good enough to put it on my partner put it on my I said put it on my partner ladies and gentlemen right now I said before it does give me great pleasure to introduce first lady of the screen Miss Jane weinman ladies and gentlemen [Music] I hope so but Janie it's really wonderful of you to come over here well not at all de and I want to congratulate both of you boys and I I want you to know how much of of your own hard work and also the letter carriers are giving and I'm I'm so happy to do my little bit and I'd kind of like to say to them that uh well this is a very very worthwhile thing and most of the people who are contributing to to this particular benefit and I I call it a very wonderful benefit it's really magnificent and all of you letter carriers are truly magnificent on behalf of America my small contribution I thank you well that's really amazing that thousands you know thousands of letter carriers under the leadership of their great president uh Mr William C dhy and uh on their own own time and I wish it turned the card on their own time without to pay and with no other reward that the knowledge that they are helping save the lives of 200,000 crippled and very sick children will walk their routes again to pick up gift envelopes containing funds that American people wish to give to help conquer this child killing disease well the funds which this campaign will raise will be used for two major purposes first intense research will be done in 50 medical centers across the United States to seek out the cause of this terrible disease and to find the treatment that will end it and second part of the funds will be used for the purchase of wheelchairs iron lungs and other medical equipments to ease the suffering of the sick children in each area clinics will be set up to assist in the diagnosis of the condition to provide advice and to help the victims and their distressed parents with physical therapy centers they'll all be established well I I think that's just wonderful you know well I I want to thank all of the people of this great country uh who make it possible for this kind of a campaign to be successful and I thank them for the warmth and the generosity that is America's Heritage and for each letter carrier who will visit you I'd like to give this message remember every day regardless of the weather your letter carrier makes a delivery to you and now it's your chance to deliver and if you have not received or have lost your gift envelope then please use any envelope at all place it place in it all that you can spare and give it to your letter carrier or mail to MDA her local postmaster and to the children who have muscular distrophy I'd like to say that America has not forgotten you and your letter carriers who see you on your on their routes each day have not forgotten you either and we hope and believe that the research that this campaign will make possible will get you out of your Wheelchairs and into the sunshine playing with all your little little friends of the same age and for me individually God bless you thank you Janie wman very for you to come over how about that Oh Me Oh I'm back well uh ladies and gentlemen I would like to say right now that it's a great thrill and a great pleasure that finally in this show I have a chance what you going to do now introducing one of the [Music] guests I am very proud to introduce this gentlemen you thought I well uh we're very proud to introduce this gentleman ladies and gentlemen uh this is a lady gentlemen this is a gentleman lady uh ladies and gentlemen needless to say that this is a swell fellow and uh what is the two 30 second break already again you're making a break you just broke it what 2 minutes but we can't introduce the man and then in the middle of what he's saying oh no we got to give him a full five six minutes we oh yeah this is a terrible thing I know what watch it look out look out look out look out [Music] [Applause] out that was terrific to see how they all laugh when he did that where's he working tomorrow what makes you think he's here tonight hey that is a good one look I'll tell you what we'll do oh tell me I listen to you I'm hanging on your every cevel I wonder I'm getting heavy look I just want to say this Jerry we have never in our whole entire career told a joke we've always had situations right right you tell a joke I I should tell a joke yeah a Dy one no he's the president oh yeah well this is a very funny story 30 seconds in the middle of a story well uh this happened at ball River Mass I was working there in 1923 with think's mules you see and uh I was invited over to the party and uh May Bush and Chester Conklin were there and uh well while sitting around at the party we were just cutting a couple of Capers if you know what I mean and uh well from Left Field like from out of the blue in walks this guy now was a nice personable look at 30 seconds he's a nice personable he's a nice personable looking fellow you see and uh he sits down and he's introduced to Mrs Brandon and uh Farley W well the two of them start talking and they're having the darnest time discussing the uh uh University basketball team well I step in there in the no of course because broad Seaman was my brother at the time now I started talking about the game and right in the middle of this he gets up 15 seconds so he gets up fast we're off it was a this is ABC television Network
