Description: A heavy hooked beak, long sharp talons, and exceptional vision are the tools of the trade of the hawk. A wide variety of hawks occurs in North America, and over a dozen different kinds are featured in this unusual film, ranging from the bluejay-sized kestrel to the majestic bald eagle. While observing hawks engaged in typical nesting, hunting, migratory and territorial activities, the audience learns the common physical characteristics of buteos, accipeters, harriers and falcons. One particulary dramatic sequence shows the endangered peregrine falcon--probably the world's fastest bird--attacking its prey in midair. The conclusion of the film deals with the dangers that confront the survival of these, Identifies many species of hawks found in North America.
