Description: Views the archaeological excavation at La Venta, Tabasco, Mexico, which helped substantiate the theory that high civilization in Mesoamerica made its earliest appearance in the lowland gulf coastal region in the southern part of the State of Veracruz and the northern part of the State of Tabasco. Exhibits the familiar Mesoamerican pattern of pyramids, stone sculpture, carved jade, and the singular finds of monolithic flat-topped altars, sculptured monuments, and jade figurines. Presents the name "Olmec" to the new art style, and summarizes the history of the site from 800 B.C.
