Description: Material is selected to show the various ways that tongue and lips are used in order to contrast the principal syllable types of Peking Chinese. X-ray techniques show the articulatory process and acoustic output of native speakers; prepared scripts, consisting mainly of short, meaningful utterances, illustrate selected phonetic features. Speakers were chosen both for linguistic suitability and lack of physical characteristics that might interfere with X-ray quality. From the X-Ray Film series
