This Warners-style musical film, Josephine Baker's first talkie, is primarily a vehicle to showcase the talents of the famous revue star. The film's Cinderella plot stars Baker as Zou Zou, a 28-year-old laundress who travels to Paris with her half-brother, a womanizing sailor, to find work in a music hall. When the show's lead walks out on her sugar daddy producer for her true love, Zou Zou takes her place and becomes a star. Songs include: Vien Fifine, Pour moi y'a qu'un homme dans Paris, C'est lui, and Haiti, in which Baker, scantily clad in feathers and seated on a swing in an oversized birdcage, sings nostagically of her Caribbean home.
