Uses authentic photographs, documents and illustrations of the period to recapture the atmosphere and the spirit of ‘home steading’ on the Great Plains during the time of about 1840 to 1860. Describes the geographic and climatic barriers and hostility of the Indians as major deterrents to earlier settlement in the plains area. Depicts economic pressures and inventions which contributed to the eventual settlement of the area. Reenactments. Includes buffalo ( = Bison).
