Most of the footage shows a reproduction of 1849, where two young men dig for gold in California. We see them eat, do laundry, and their gold-digging machinery. Once gold-rich, they go to San Francisco where we see them in a saloon, drinking and gambling, at a theater, and eating fancy food. (There is no actual footage of San Francisco). They loose their money and go back to the gold area where there is now a mill. We see them walking through a classic-looking old west town. Other visuals include stills of newspaper headlines and articles and an animation of a US map.
