Description
Home movie footage associated with General Thomas Holcomb who commanded the Marine detachment in Beijing (Peking, China from August 1927 to February 1930). Scenes of horseback riding, Holcomb's Pao Ma Chang cottage, a tug of war between the U.S. and Italian legation guards, Itialian Commandant Lieutenant Bigliardi, Lantern Street at New Year's time, Zhengyangmen (Chien Men) and Wall Street, the guard compound and the legation compound under snow, drill on glacis by 38th and 39th companies, a boy playing with dogs, a paper chase near Maud's Bridge, explorer Roy Andrews, Chips Smallwood, Freddy Meyer, and Jimmie Barton talking, an artesian well being dug in the corral, San Shan An temple, a luncheon party for RADM Mark Lambert Bristol at Pao Ma Chang, swimming, General Pao Yu Lin leaves Peking by the Chi Hua Men, the Shanhsi troops entering through Zhengyangmen, polo, and the Temple of Heaven. The film includes flags and armbands featuring swastikas (religious symbol).
