Description: Shows how the librarians at the Cleveland Public Library select and distribute books to "shut-ins" in their area. Librarians are followed as they visit persons confined to their homes or residing in hospitals, children's or psychiatric wards, and homes for the aged. Depicts mechanical devices loaned to handicapped persons who can not sit up, turn pages, or move their heads. Recounts the beginnings of the service from funds donated in 1941 by the Frederick W. and Henryett Slocum Judd Book Forum and administered by the Cleveland Foundation. The demand for librarians in this type of work is stressed.
