it was the night before Christmas it was the night before Christmas when all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes of St Nicholas soon would be there the children are nestled all snug in their beds while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads gr and his cief and I and my cap had just settled our brains for a Long Winter snap when not on the lawn there Roose such a clatter I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter way to the window gramp flew like a flash tore open the shutters and threw up the [Music] slash Graham couldn't see anything there so he ran to the upstairs window [Music] Jiminy Bob he looked again the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow here a luster of mid of objects below when what through our wondering eyes should appear but a miniature slave and one big horse with a little old driver so ring and quick I knew in a moment it must be St Nick more rapid than Eagles his corser he came and he whistled and shouted and called him by name no Sam to the top of the porch to the top of the wall now dash away Dash away Dash away all he was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot a bundle of toes he had flung on his back he looked like a pedler just opening his back his eyes how they twinkled his dimples how merry his cheeks were like roses his nose like a cherry his dra little mouth was drawn up like a bow and the beard on his chin was as white as a snow the stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth and the smoke it encircled his head like a [Music] wreath he had a broad face and a little round belly That Shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly he was chubby and plump all right Jolly Old elf we laughed when we saw him In Spite of Ourselves the wink of his eye The Twist of his head soon gave us to know we had nothing to dread he spoke not a word but I straight to his work and filled all the [Music] stockings then turn with a jerk laying his side of his nose giving a nod up the chimney he [Music] rose sand seems to be stalling I guess he doesn't want to go up the chimney yet maybe he thinks the fire is too hot or the chimney's too dirty Jim clean the jimney [Music] Sanda oh there he goes [Music] now he sprang to his sleave and his teing gave a whistle and away they all flew like the D of a pistle but I heard it didn't exclaim where he drove out of sight happy Christmas to all and to all a good night
