Description: Dr. Margaret Mead, noted cultural anthropologist, shows how events between 1928 and 1953 transformed the island dwelling Manus of the Admiralty Islands from a Stone Age culture to a threshold of modern civilization. She presents evidence gathered on two trips to the Admiralties and points out the effect of contact with German, Australian, and American cultures. She stresses the value of learning how human cultures change to meet new conditions.
