The fruit fly : a look at behavior biology

Introduces the study of behavior through the use of genetically mutated fruit flies. Examines several varieties of mutant fruit flies and compares their behavior to that of normal fruit flies. Points out that one cannot assume that these discoveries are relevant to the human nervous system. , In response to a resurgence of experimentation in Drosophila genetics, this film examines the relationship of genes to behavior, using the Drosophila as a microcosm of life. The implications of the work of Morgan, Beedle and Sturdevant, among others, are discussed. Recent work, including that of Seymour Benzer, is examined in some detail.
