Description: A documentary on efforts to alleviate hunger in underdeveloped countries. Produced through the facilities of the United Nations, this program reports on starvation throughout the world, specifically profiling India, the Phillipines, Ceylon [Sri Lanka], Pakistan and Indonesia. The program examines whether food-surplus shipments to underdeveloped nations and the introduction of birth-control practices are sufficient to halt spreading starvation and questions whether the food crises can be solved independent of a general economic development and technological revolution. Food experts appearing on the program include: Lord John Boyd-Orr, first director General of the Food and Agricultural Organization; U.S. Senator George S. McGovern; Raul Prebisch, director of the U.N. Conference on Trade and Development; Arthur Goldschmidt, economist with the U.N. Development Program; Addike Boerma, director of the World Food Program., Contrasts the areas of the world where there is an abundance of food with the areas where starvation is a way of life, and documents the pattern which has led to the lack of an adequate food supply. Reviews the history of the food crisis along with attempts at solutions. Covers areas including India, Libya, the Philippines, South America, Canada, Europe, and the United States.
