Description: Faith Hubley's first feature-length animated film tells the story of three musicians from a nearby planet who have just completed a successful interplanetary jazz tour. On board their vehicle, the Cosmic Eye, a life-detecting mirror is used to find technical societies. When the instrument shows earth children at play, the musicians are puzzled by what they see and hear. Images from the world's mythologies detail the origins of life and those primordial events resulting in humankind's mortality, sexuality and societal organization. The drama continues and Mother Earth begins to choke; the eco-catastrophe is here. As the earthbound creatures attempt to leap out of their bounds and connect with the universe, the musicians send a message of peace, and for a moment, the people of Earth can see the Cosmic Playground. The film's musical score combines jazz, Native American music, sacred chants and musical forms from around the world. (Circulates)
