The Best of Families, No. 1: Generations

The diverse backgrounds of the Rafferty, Wheeler, and Lathrop/Baldwin families unfold as all suffer financial setbacks when the Reading Railroad failure causes economic crisis. The Wheelers, caught with worthless railroad stock, are forced to sell their grand house: the Rafferty men are thrown out of work when the financial backing for a construction project with the railroad fails; and young James Lathrop loses his supervisory position on the same project.
