Description: North America F-100 Super Sabers zoom across screen in a series of montage shots (:11). James Stewart; USAF brigadier General and movie star hosts "The Airman's World" (:30). This 1960's government documentary short introduces and examines the USAF Strategic Air Command and Control Organization. The program operated from 1946 to 1992 as an authority over US strategic military forces. USSSTRATCOM; based in Nebraska, is featured as the brain center of the operation though footage is also included of emergency locales including airborne command centers are depicted as well. [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the America's strength is measured in many ways by our military preparedness of course and also by The Good Will of other free nations of the world every American overseas whether civilian or military is in a unique position to create trust and confidence in our country now today I'd like to show you how four very highly skilled airmen have been doing an exceptional job as ambassadors of Goodwill meeting people of many lands and demonstrating skills and precision flying that are typical of the Tactical fighter pilots of the United States Air [Music] Force the Thunderbirds Are On The Move sliding over the Pacific trusting onward to the Orient to a meeting with people standing as we stand firm for the self-determining right of each man to find his own sufficient world over the cities and Villages now of people who will read in the sky the friendly gesturing of airplanes that seek no greater Conquest than to break once more the barrier of language that which so often divides the basic thoughts of men and man divided is no stranger to these Shores reflective memory moves now past the forested corridor that ends in the deserted bastions of carador where still echo the defiant yells of men hard pressed hopeful in their hopelessness that the world might hear and hearing carry on the fight and that fight Was Won and today is forgotten Fujiyama looks down now upon a peaceful land but new cornerstones of dispute cast again their lengthening Shadows upon the Asiatic scene Taiwan the island Fortress cleaved from the mainland by the famosa strait and from former Kinsmen who believe no more that man is destined to be the individual master of his mind and soul northward free Coria Stands Strong behind the ramper of a parallel knowing that behind their way of life stands the United Nations concept of a world policed by the actions of just men acting in concert to stop forever the militant footfalls of the conqueror's boot these are the Far East Lands full in Tradition and knowing graced by the old stirring with the promise of the new and the people of these lands people like all people the farmer endlessly watering his crop women forever bargaining in the marketplace two men basking in the Sun the old woman careful of her one dress people faces of happy children on a slide college students relaxing between classes the man protecting his worldly Goods the busy woman pausing for a smile people grandfather and granddaughter harvesting the rice the stonemason and his horse cart by the ocean shore the people of the Terrace Farms the rural Villages the cities people at the spinning loans on the assembly lines people creating transport people like all people part of the holiday scene part of the work a day scene the laborer proud of his home the father proud of his son the lady shy before the camera young women bold in their beauty people like all people no longer anchored to the Past people on the March they move to the airfields of the Far East follow the signs that announce the Thunderbirds wait in gay spirit for men and machines that will spell in the sky the beauty and strength of the air age fingers point and in the hush each man's thoughts run like rivers to the common sea no words need be spoken in this watching of American power birds for here East Meets West in the festive atmosphere of men talking by sign language in the sky to other men l [Music] oh [Music] the [Music] [Music] la w [Music] a [Music] [Music] l [Music] [Music] [Applause] h [Music] the [Music] this Brief Encounter the movement together of peoples Walt Whitman said it well I see tremendous entrances and exits I see new combinations I see the solidarity of races I see that Force advancing with irresistible power on the world stage I see Freedom completely armed and Victorious and very hoty with law on one side and peace on the other a stupendous Trio all issuing forth against the idea of cast are not all nations communing is there not going to be but one heart to the globe one heart to the globe that is the hope of the Thunderbirds as they Point their machines Homeward again back to their land compounded of the same basic goals and dreams as any other [Music] land thank you for joining us in this brief look into the airman's world the world of jets and missiles the Aerospace world this has been just one of many stories about your United States Air Force about the people who keep this force in being to today and who will go on making new stories for tomorrow [Music]
