Complete Record: A man and woman playfully walk down the street. The man, Juan, (Alan Arkin!) carries a guitar. He sits on a park bench by himself playing his guitar and singing as the camera zooms in on him. A man approaches him and proceeds to ask him questions. He was sent by his mother who wants him to find out what her son is doing with his life. He doesn’t want to go to school. Juan talks about growing up in Puerto Rico. He doesn’t want to go back. The man tries to talk him into various different trades like typing or car maintenance. Juan is not buying it. Juan goes through the many, painful steps in buying a car and a house. Then they talk about how probable it would be for Juan to make a living off of his music. No. Juan doesn’t want to do anything. The man gets frustrated and decides to go. Juan calls himself a “young bum”. Then Juan asks the man about his life. He doesn’t have a car or a house or a wife either. Then they make a deal. Juan will teach him Spanish if the man teaches him more English. They agree to meet in the park every once in a while. Juan begins to sing a song. The man joins in. The camera zooms out with both of them singing on the bench.
