Description: This documentary focuses on poor people in Philadelphia who illegally squat in abandoned houses in order to secure shelter and change official housing policies. Gloria Giles, a 22-year-old single mother has become a leader in the squatters movement. The camera follows her and other squatters as they attend a national Tent City protest in Washington D.C. and testify at House Subcommittee hearings on Capitol Hill where their advocacy leads to the introduction and passage of a $20 million allocation to cities for the acquisition and rehabilitation of abandoned houses. Includes interviews with Philadelphia mayor, Wilson Goode; Department of Housing and Urban development undersecretary, Philip Abrams; City Councilman, John Street; and real estate developer Nathan Weiss.
