Bergman's fable about war centers on the marriage of two former musicians caught on an island in the middle of an insurrection. Their aimlessness, desperation and lack of courage contrast with an incomprehensible will to live. The film is Note worthy for its stark black and white imagery, statis camera movements and sharp sounds that, ironically, do not include music. (Does not circulate)
