In order to feed her family, the daughter of an official, who has lost his job, almost becomes the victim of a procuress. A kept woman is almost raped by a butcher but is saved from prostitution by an American. Reflecting the influence of expressionism, the film brought fame to Pabst during a low period in German cinema and heralded Greta Garbo to stardom. (Does not circulate)
