Description: Based on a collection of oral histories and the life of Zem Ping Dong, the filmmaker's mother, this film presents the life of a Chinese immigrant woman who worked in America's garment factories for over 30 years. Married in China at age 13, the sewing woman immigrated to the U.S. as a war bride, leaving behind her eldest son. As yards of fabric pass through her machine, the woman relates her gradual adjustment to life in the U.S. and the eventual reunion of her entire family. Dong's film combines footage shot in the villages of China and the factories of San Francisco's Chinatown with old home movies and personal photographs.
