Description: Shows that environmental stimuli associated as many as 480 times with 'SHAM RAGE' reactions due to hypothalamic stimulation fail to induce affective states. Points out that, in contrast, recovery animals continue feeding or other adaptative behavior during stimulation and show normal fear and rage despite extensive hypothalamic lesions. Shows that cardiac and vasomotor accompaniments of hypothalamic 'CONDITIONING' are not produced in anesthetized animals.
