Description: Examines a variety of fossils and explains their probable origin. Explains how layers of mud that have accumulated under the sea have hardened to rock and have later become dry land, and shows how remains of animals embedded in the rock have become fossilized and are exposed when the layers of rock are eroded by natural forces or revealed in a quarry. Shows that in the lowest layers in which animal traces are seen, There are no remains of vertebrates.
