Description: Revision of 1947 film. Portrays life on the ranchos of Spanish California: measuring the land and securing a land grant, herding the first cattle, preparing the first hides to make a rawhide riata, activities of the rodeo, preparing hides and tallow for the Boston ships, and a fiesta to celebrate the end of the busy work season

Complete Record: Shows a Spanish grandfather telling his little grandson some of the history and customs of the descendants of the Spaniards in old California as he has experienced them in his lifetime up to 1835. The marking-out of the land, breaking it with oxen, the use of hides, the making of tallow, the making of a riata, the processing of rawhide, and the uses of leather are described.
