Paradise

This humorous and ironic fable tells the tale of an ordinary blackbird who discovers a beautiful bird of paradise in a caliph's luxurious palace. Envy and ambition impel the crow to steal the bright plumage from other birds in order to become the coveted plaything of the emperor. With his artificial finery, he proudly enters the ruler's crystal chamber, only to be caught and caged. A fortuitous storm releases him from his gilded prison and the blackbird re-discovers the beauty of freedom. Mixed media techniques, including cut-outs, color pencil renderings on cels and paper, multiple exposures, and backlit perforated backgrounds, were used to produce this colorful animated short.
