huh you know I feel kind of heartbroken I I just grown some of the most beautiful carnations in my little garden and I'm so proud of them this morning I got them all set to wear went and forgot us oh go that's the shame after all the hard work oh gosh and it smells nice too they're nice pretty little ones and I cut them out of the garden I put them in the in the water so it' be nice and fresh and forgot it well it's a wonderful thing to have a garden I think everybody in New York that has a little plant in their home or a window box and those that live out in the city it's just something that we all sort of cling to in want ahe well I've only got a few but am I proud of them got him with a what is it got him with hooks of Steel well we have quite a show for you lined up today a very lovely show on this Thursday we have Billy Albert here to play his guitar and sing for us and Billy's very unique and unusual Style and what else well uh something that's very close to our hearts I think Sydney we're going to talk about uh meat today but all kinds of meat you know how we all feel in stakes and whatnot we're going to find out how to pick good ones because Kane on is here today she's an expert in that along with Gail uland and they're from the state extension services and they always have good news on the goodbyes of the week and uh today it's going to be on meat and everything else I think the New York State Extension Service is one of the most important parts of our show because it gives all of us the ideas of what is good in the market so we know how to shop wisely and save money and buy things that are plentiful and good to eat someone else we're going to enjoy meeting today is Jacob singer he's president of the home of old Israel here in New York and he's bringing along a couple of invited guests and a very fascinating Story one I think you'll more than enjoy and also the fine work that they do over at the home of world Israel and for the ladies for the ladies we have to Fashions today Fashions from that new and fast growing Fashion Center California with a designer and you're going to see some very unique and beautiful styles right from California you know Sydney it's coming long summer now we haven't had a nice bathing suit fashion show for quite a while well and I kind of thought perhaps you ought to get busy in something like that I know you did Patman I'll try I'll try but you know what happens in the market we are always ahead of time you see in Fashions we're on our fall fashions now so you're going to have to wait until next year for bathing suits or perhaps for the resort season well we'll see well I don't know my fingers crossed then of course today being th the girls from the Brooklyn Union Gas Company are coming by here about 2:00 to cook all those nice things in the kitchen so I think it's going to be a very busy and a very pleasant afternoon and sewing too sewing on how to make accessories with Ruth beer but let's have a little music to start with well Billy Albert's just the fellow to do that for us he has a very unique style of song when we think you more than enjoy so here we are right off the bat with a song by Billy Albert okay Bill way to have said goodbye and yet I love I know that now I'll never [Music] want her smile will me and meor will me no others the please won't you tell her just say I love i' love her from the start and tell her how I'm [Music] what's she's lonely and I love and her back again if you should chance to meet her any time any place [Music] anywhere [Music] say [Music] a a fo can [Music] all [Music] your of all your [Music] and if she tells you she's lonely now and then won't you just say I love and want her back oh again [Music] that was lovely you know we've had very uncertain weather as all of us know here and it's been cold enough to keep those Woolen blankets of ours in good use but uh I think now Summer's really here and we're going to be putting them away and one of the things the wool Bureau suggests is when you put away wool it be completely clean because it has to keep away the MTH and The larva from eating up your wool and one of the best ways to keep it clean and to make the job job easy and beautifully done is with chiffon soap flakes it does a very good job on your blankets and does a very gentle job on your hands so put chiffon soap flakes on your shopping LP you love chiffon no Pur soap was ever made it's the secret of Youth chiffon soap flakes the secret of Youth th everything you wash by hand including your hand honestly pure chiffon is just wonderful for all your prettiest things and when you do dishes chiffon treats your hands in a ladylike way that's because chiffon is pure soap see you can feel the wonderful difference in chiffon Suds they're so rich and satiny between your fingers you see chiffon isn't like synthetic chemicals that dry out natural oils your hands know it and show it look at your hands to keep them looking nice and smooth do your dishes with pure chiffon it's the secret of Youth Chon soap flakes the secret of Youth for everything you wash by hand including your hands hi we kind of look forward you know ago she was impressing you she told you that I was in the production and marketing administration of the Department of Agriculture oh that was it today huh well uh we promised the folks at the opening of the program today that we were going to tell them about meat and how they could how they could tell the difference in different grades of meat it is very important that you know the grade names and how to buy and cook each grade well there are several grades here and uh K has fixed up a little list of them so we'll know them all here they are right here the grades of beef are usually us Prime us Choice us good us commercial here I'll go below and see if I can get it up here you've got it hidden away I'm glad waler is getting this because it's heavy it's getting to the time of the year when we've got so many things you know each week Gail always brings around the Market Basket and it always contains a lot of good things to go along with those big Stakes that you showed us yes indeed course we can't neglect the vegetables and the uh fruit so they're important I see you have summer squash and beat Sumer squash of all kinds are good ones this one's Acorn then we have the little zucchini that you will find on your market and beets and of course there you can use tops and bom which makes two vegetables in one and and both of them are very good well it looks like we're going to do a lot of good eating this summer doesn't it it sure does we'll eat your big steaks and have all the nice vegetables and fruit that Gail suggest to go along with it I think we'll all be Mighty happy open excuse me well Sydney SM just so happens that I have something that will be the finishing touch on on the goodbyes from the state extension service today one thing about Market Melodies I don't know any place where you eat better in the whole wide world to find out more about good things to eat too and this is it you come to the right place you certainly have in one of our products here that we're very proud of Milani products they make delicious dressings and delicious spreads and one of the things we'd like to talk about today is the Cisco or Caesar garlic dressing made by Milani and here it is right here and it's really something special you know it's that little extra touch that when you use a garlic dressing it brings out that little the only way I can explain it is that little in food you know what I mean you garlic and you know would you like to know how to make the Cisco or Caesar salad I'd love to well all you do is cake your iced lettuce Roma preferably which is on the market now and you just cut it in in little pieces and put it in a big salad bowl then you cut a thick slice of dry toast into small cubes and you soak for a few seconds into Cisco garlic dressing then you put it in the salad bowl and cut a few pieces of anchovy a cuddled egg and then you pour a liberal quantity of the Cisco garlic dressing all over that and it's the best thing you ever tasted then you know what you do you eat it you dive in you sure do head first well that's Milan's The Cisco garlic dressing used in so many nice ways and especially with lamb too it's very elegant that's one of my favor you know that us commercial beef you were talking about well if it is a little old how about putting some of this right on the beef it'll tenderize it and make it taste delicious but this is only one of the many Milani product supposing s be run down our our little list that we have here so when you're out shopping you can replace the ones that you need now first of all if we start over here in our side we'll have the barbecue sauce the must this time of year along with the charola the Braves for the French roasting and basting in the gravy also the 1890 French dressing a must the dill sauce for fish and Co laws The Cisco garlic dressing by Milani garlic spread that's delicious for your garlic bread tartar sauce and Caesar dressing all products of Milani sold throughout America and absolutely delicious we guarantee it oh boy that's it but make sure it's m for the finest ingredients and the finest taste but the Albert's going to sing a few Praises for us too since we've been singing the Praises of Milani I think he ought to sing a song boys right Al anytime you're set why I think we all set I hold you in my heart I can hold you in my arms like you've never been H before I of you each day and then I'll dream the night away till you are in my arm once more [Music] the Stars up in the know the reason [Music] why I feel when I'm in love with you I hold you in my heart so I can hold hold you in my arms so darling please young gnome friend dropped around today we always like to have a nice little chat with him especially on Thursdays don't how I'm sure that all the boys and girls at home and all their moms and dads too would like to have these imported bread sticks so de mind if we tell the ladies about them why don't you do that Walder tell them about the gnome bread sticks that are imported well you bet I will Mr gnome by en jooy that will be our pleasure won it doesn't he eat well just take a look at that yes he's not only got a fat little tummy but he's got a a round little uh too has bottom as well well you know we were saying that there are 20 imported bread sticks in this box and are they delicious and unlike the uh gome bacon serup products these are all ready for you to eat as they come from the Box in this lovely plaid or gingham BLX and I'm going to open it up here and Walt will you help yourself indeed I will you know something else too they're awfully good for the baby to on you know if they're teething make it very healthy for them and very good for them too the wonderful so many dishes you know soups and cheese and all kinds of coal snacks Buffet suppers guess they go with just about everything that's right and they even have right here on the back recipes for trying them suggested for serving gnome bread sticks and it gives you all these different recipes right on the back of each and every box then to it tells you all of the many products that we have on the table in front of us that are made by gnome you're going to love all the gnome products the bacon served 3 in1 French bread and also the Danish coffee ring and all the different kinds of rolls butterf flakes cinnabuns Clover rolls and poppy seed rolls but don't forget the bread sticks they're in all your favorite grocery stores now and they really are delicious made of the finest ingredients that you would make yourself if you were making them you just look for that red and white gingham package it's kind of uh got on my gingham shirt here today to kind of match our little red and white kingham package but this is just to serve as a reminder to you that you recognize the gnome products in the red and white kingham box that's right and you recognize Our Little Gnome and all of our people who use gnome bake and sered products by the happy expression they have on their face I don't think there's anything nicer than having a fresh baked smell in the house when uh Bakery goods are being made and that's what happens when you use the seven minute bacon served product a little note here said a supply of gnome products goes to Mrs Bessie little of hawksdale New York for her interesting suggestion on serving gnome products congratulations Mrs Bessie little of heartsdale you get a nice supply of gome products wonderful so don't forget all the rest of you out there to send in your suggestion for using gnome products so that you too can win a supply of gnome bacon served products well let's meet some of our models from California and let's tell you that our Fashions today are a combination because we have a really Triple Threat young lady here she designs for Nelly Don one of the most famous houses in all of the country as well as her own designs here's an old friend back with us too Georgie would you describe this dress yes this is in botney sheer wool it's an all worsted wool and as you can see it's it's checked which is very good for fall this has an over skirt a panel over skirt that unbutton so it is easy to step into um the neckline is is the new feeling for colorless cardigan type of neckline I always feel very dressed up in a dress like that we call this the pantaloon sleeve the pantaloon sleeve there's so much interest um for fall and sleeves well this is very special now we have it buttoning down to the waist and nipped in very nicely with a self belt and then yards and yards of yarn dyed uh tafida in a beautiful shade of burgundy red isn't it yes this also is very pretty and a lovely shade of Royal which is also shot with a black to give it that iridescent look now does this have that great krelin Petticoat under it too yes I'm sure it does I think everybody this year has got to have at least one in their wardrobe for those full skirts and also uh I think they should all have one of these new waist Nippers don't you oh definitely couldn't be without one now here is a wool dress that Georgia Bullock has designed in her fall collection and very beautiful it is too what what is this jersey this is a uh yes the worst of Jersey all wool Jersey and this is an example of the costumes that we do a dress with its own little jacket oh that is so important I think a woman always feels uh so well when she has a complete outfit that she can mix match with her little gray skirt she could wear this jacket and now she also has it in complete costume with her gray dress underneath the jacket is made in a beautiful novelty wool woven to look almost like a roated wool what you call that sleeve that's very attractive well that's just a very short brief puffed sleeve but with a Doan cut on the uh on the side there so that you have plenty of Freedom underneath very pretty very smart and this is a Georgia Bullock yes a Georgia bulock preview of what you'll see and be seeing this fall now we had uh a very lovely guest on not long ago who had the same idea that you have about getting away from the tailored woman look of of suits you know and getting back to the feminine look of a dress with a jacket so that oh that's yes I think think that has been the big influence for the coming season now let's see what you have on Georgia here's something Georg is wearing right now that I think is absolutely beautiful it's her own design will you tell us about it yes this is in pil pan this is a complete wrapp R the skirt is all lined in taida I think it's a very wearable style for almost any figure I know that you have it in line there and uh it looks very comfortable and did you say that was silk shanton this is silk Honan in the same family well now you know you're talking about Fabrics I'm going to tell you about something Georgia bulock Straight from California with designs I have something very important to tell you about kind of got not much room but perhaps enough room to let you read this sign which is so important to those dollars you spend on nylon h i want you to insist on twist when you go in your favorite specialty shop insist on twist because it's going to save you money in the long run all of us know what nylon hose is we know that 15 denure is one of the sheerest and finest of nylon H but we don't know is the fact that the throwers have been twisting nylon H and by uh twisting the 15 denure thread they have given it for advantages to the consumer first of all you have an inch and a half more stretch in your Twisted nylon hose you have a dollar finish because of the many twists in the thread just let's take a look at this uh screw that I have here in my hand you'll see that this end which has been twisted uh does not reflect light as the untwisted end does that's why Twisted thread has a dull finish then we have more snag resistance because of the many twists in the thread and less wrinkling it really clings to your ankle and to your knee and just fits so beautifully you know Georgia how many times have you bent down to pick something up and pop you get a oh I know it happens to me almost every day well you won't have it happen to you if you insist on twist 2 because it really is a product that sells itself the roers association doesn't even have to sell me on it because I've worn them now and I know how good they are now if you'd like to know how to save those extra dollars by buying your hose wisely your 15 Den your sheerest nylon hose while just send me a penny postcard here at Market Melodies wjztv New York 23 New York that's Market Melodies wjztv New York 23 New York and I'll see to it that you get some of the 65 brand names 65 brands of Twisted nylon in the sheerest 15 denure nylon hose and then you really will be shopping wisely when you insist on [Music] twist Make Way Make Way for my easn rose [Music] the only Trick In this case in making the belt is not to cut out the center of the belt until after the edge is sealed in and tightened then if you cut the center holes here I've made a great big uh picture if you cut through the center with a regular X shape giving you four little Loops it's very easy then here I have it you can put the hole through H you can just take then and bend it back and you get a beautiful shape but if you cut that Center out first it begins to pull and it's very hard to get your edging well Ruth beer I want to thank you for being our guest today and I know our friends do too so many of them right into to Ruth beer here on the show and ask her for sewing tips because she is our sewing expert and today we've learned how easy it is to make a buckle or a belt for our summer accessories and I want to thank you very much I'm going to talk about something else with Walter my favorite bow around here right now it's just as easy for you to do and certainly is enjoyable let's go and join him step number one shake it up well step number two open one can Libby's pineapple juice just in time oh I wouldn't miss it well uh since you're nice tall girl I've got a nice tall glass here for her nice cool liy pineapple juice how about that oh waler I'm just dying here I've been talking so much givee giveme give me I know what you mean well this is our kind of pickme up time here in market melod and uh we think the nicest way to do that is to have a nice cold glass of Libby's pineapple juice don't we there isn't anything that tastes any better first of all it's ice cold and it's so delicious it's full of Chuck full of pineapple flavor because it comes from Hawaii where Libby has three Hawaiian pineapple plantations where all the best pineapple comes from yes sir well Libby's pineapple juice we suggest you get the great big-sized can and keep it in your refrigerator so it's nice and cold see then when all the members of your family wants something cool and refreshing you've got plenty of it right on hand that's right and it's so Chuck full of vitamin C and B1 that you also are getting all the necessary vitamins that you need in those hot summer days so for an extra special treat how about stocking up your pantry shelves and always keeping cold in your refrigerator a can of Libby's Hawaiian pineapple juice it's the finest pineapple juice I've ever tasted anywhere anytime mhm Welter that's our little suggestion for today for breakfast for dinner for supper for in between snacks especially during this nice warm weather and all the nice things you can make up like uh all the pineapple ice cream sodas which are the hit in our house they on yours hand stand too certainly well with your three youngsters my goodness you must have a tough time keeping it around nice generous scoops of vanilla ice cream right in with a pineapple juice no boy is that good and I know too because my little girl loves pineapple juice and I can't get her to drink some of the other fruit juices but I have complete confidence that she's getting all the necessary vitamins as long as she takes Libby's pineapple juice well they are so be sure to put that in your shopping list in y out today with him make sure it's Libby's pineapple juice the very finest you can buy we're going to go in the kitchen now an sensky is out there from the Brooklyn Union Gas Company and today has got all kinds of my suggestions for Frankford and she's got an upside down cake and oh Lord what else she's got I don't know uh supposing I run out in the kitchen and uh get a little check up on just what's going to happen huh good excuse me just a moment s just cut here in time didn't I you sure did I was just telling Sydney I thought you had some um what's that uh special Frank fits uhhm upside down cake upside pineapple upside down pineapple upside down K what else um a salad I thought and a quick lemon merang pie oh Lord two desserts we having today special treat today well there's nothing stingy about an sensky you know on Tuesdays and Thursdays here in our kitchen the girls from Brooklyn Union come on over and see their an pensy one day Kathy hegler the other and uh during the summer months now they're going to be calling on us 2 to 2:30 and Tuesdays and Thursdays I guess Thursdays are your days huh that's right right along well supposing you get things underway an and in just a little while we'd like to come back and tell the folks a little bit about the Rope AR range that you're going to use so will you give us the high sign when you're all ready and waiting I certainly will how about after the cake after the cake I can't think of a nice time okay good mhm well first of all we're going to make the grilled stuff frankfurters well we're coming around the Long Way see Robin has v we went all around out to visit Mike Freeman out by his home because we couldn't byy him hi M well we're back in the kitchen and we wanted to take this little time to just cut into the cooking just a moment to talk about the Rope range so will you join us that's fine I'll tell you what I think the Franks are just about ready to come out and while we're talking maybe you can also show them the features of the Brer oh wonderful let's do that just thr a nut listen to me goodie goodie did you get thank you all I don't get much he doesn't indulge in anything I'm the one who does all the eating well let's take a look at this Broiler because this heavily insulated Broiler in EUR Roper range is really something special we call it the glow Broiler and it does a beautiful job of broiling for you certainly looks at right now with all those nice Franks I think they need about another minute more so shall we close the BR you're calling that a pig in a blanket by any chance well that's one name for it there's so many names for it that um pick in the blanket sometimes have biscuit dough around them sometimes they have bacon and but that's a good name I think well you know the important thing I think for all of our friends who were looking in is that this rer CP range and CP incidentally on a range is like Sterling on Silver isn't it that's right means uh we think it means cooking Perfection but actually it is a mark of fine quality as you say like Sterling and silver so when you see that CP on a gas range you know it's the funnest that's right and I started to say the important thing to the Cook especially this summer is the fact that all the heat is inside the broiler and inside this wonderful oven because uh it's so heavily insulated that it keeps all the heat inside and not in the kitchen where it Cooks the cook but in the oven where it Cooks the food you know that's also an economy too because it takes a less amount of heat or rather gas to get the desired amount of heat that's right and what's more with the seal tight doors you lock all the heat in there where it belongs that's right where it does an even distribution of heat which does a thorough job of cooking and look at the top look at those staggered burner tops with workspace beside each and every one and this wonderful porcelain enamel finish it's so easy to keep clean golly there are an awful lot of features aren't there you know you such a a nice neat little homemaker here in the kitchen i' I wouldn't object to helping you with the dishes at all cuz you never we're going to take you up on that W you'll be sorry what am I saying say one nice thing you like if you dropped around by your Local brookly Union Gas Company office is the low easy payment plan they have on the ropa range I think that's something that'll appeal to pop because he's the fellow that has to dig down de to pay for these things and he'll like that payment plan oh and look at those Franks aren't they L one for you wer and one for you Sydney just check full the cheese and pickles and everything under the sun and I think we better let you continue with your Noble work here in the kitchen and we'll return when everything is done then we going attack it all at one time all right don't forget we have lemon merang pie coming up and don't you forget that all of this is cooked on the road is nice and firm it has been chilled completely and Ernest is Frankfurt has looks lovely with the potato chips of Sauer crft and the grilled stuff frankfurters let's put the frankfurters up front Earnest and then here is our pineapple upside down cake the mariso cherries and the pecans around it there we are all ready to be served and here is a quick and easy summer meal I see we have some guests who are ready to sample and maybe I should have gotten a plate out by now you should have gotten a plate a bibs because we both look kind of hungry does that look uh and with food like this especially the Frank bits you know the old Latin phrase fingers were made before fo go right to it so we don't need plates or anything else to enjoy this you know something waler I'm afraid if we start to eat this at not a member of our crew will speak to us again because they've all been sitting in there just dying of hunger and I don't think we should no I want the boys mad all right boys now go ahead and get good and mad cuz here we oh no we really share it all but isn't that delicious and it didn't take you any time at all to prepare mhm well I was keeping the women in mind because they said they wanted quick and easy summer meals and I think these are very appropriate don't you I certainly do that's a little different looking lemon mering pie than I've seen before you only have the mering around the outside kind of a little peephole in the middle that's right so you can see the uh the lemon filling in the middle but it's nice and heavy and big and fluffy good well okay we'll let you know how it is in just about 3 minutes all right an sensky has been our cooking expert today and an sensky is a home economist from Brooklyn Union Gas Company in Brooklyn who uh teaches all of our friends how to cook economically as well in the fall and winter months don't you that's right during the summer time on Tuesdays and Thursdays the girls are dropping by now from 2:00 to 2:30 we want to remind you of that new time so Kathy be back again on Tuesday at 2 that's right and you next Thursday again at 2:00 I told the ladies where to write though I was just going to say how about the recipes you know you can get all these recipes that Anne prepared today by simply writing to Market Melodies wjztv New York 23 New York now tomorrow being Friday we have a whole list of nice guests dropping by first of all the only Lucas Cooks from 12:30 to 1 and we have the tasting party right after that immediately 1:00 then we have the first Army TV team the fellow who make the Army moving pictures they're coming interesting and we also have some guests from stop the music coming in tomorrow huh and exercise is for the ladies that's important for the bathing suit bulges we're going to get rid of them right on the show notice it's only for the ladies and
