Created in a cameraless style of animation by drawing and painting directly on frames of 35 mm film, Macha's curse is an Irish tale that metaphorically evokes the shift in social allegiance from mother-clan to father-king. The pregnant goddess Macha saves her boastful husband by agreeing to run a race against the king's horses. Upon finishing, she delivers twins, gathers them up in her arms and pronounces a curse on the disrespectful men of Ulster, a curse which will reverberate through the generations. The watercolor visuals are complemented by an original musical score and narration by Fiona Ritchie of National Public Radio.
