but our position is very clear that we are not going to host the games unless we can provide the kind of guarantees against financial liability for this city I've said that so many times that I don't think it's necessary to say it again but I will we will not host the games unless we can ensure that the city of Los Angeles will be free of financial liability [Music] Cunningham said this morning that in a tour for churches in South Los Angeles last Sunday that you introduced him and other members of the party there were a number of people who accompanied me on a tour of four churches yesterday I introduced them as friends of mine I did not make an endorsement of mr. Cunningham if that is your question no it was not a matter of endorsing I introduced him as friends of mine and in the case of the governor and Yvonne Burke I clearly indicated that I had endorsed them grace is it pretty much what the political analysts and papers say an endorsement is a very personal matter and simply a personal decision that I made very often in many races I don't get involved I don't endorse and it depends on a number of factors it just happened this was one of the races which I decided not to make an endorsement brief direct to the point the councilmen had come to see me about an endorsement indicated where his campaign was at the moment and told me how important it was that I endorsed I indicated that I had made a decision quite some time ago that I would not endorse and that the campaign and that nothing had changed absolutely not there was never any discussion never any discussion about the Olympics about any threat if I did not endorse I think that councilman Cunningham as well as just about everybody else I know would not issue any such threat that's the easiest way to get thrown out of my office that I can think of and that would include any elected official I don't operate by threat or intimidation and I'm sure that most elected officials know that I don't know what he said after that I don't know what he said after that and I'm not going to try to put words in his mouth I'm simply telling you what took place in that conversation no no no I have it appeared at functions of other candidates I can recall in particular I was at a dinner that was given for Nate Holden but as to making any announcements of endorsement that has been very clear from beginning to end that not made a statement of endorsement Farrell I guess you got enough sitting to do planning if the the signatures are sufficient to qualify that for recall I do expect to get involved in that recall effort I believe that councilman Bob Farrell has done a good job in his district and I'm quite prepared to say that to anybody in everybody what is your feeling about I plan to talk with some of the members of the Olympic delegation within the next two days and to make some decision about what we will do with regard to an organizing committee I've had some preliminary discussions with councilman Ferraro about that but no final and definitive decision has been made completely a businessman the official organising committee would certainly be representative of the entire city and it certainly would involve the City Council members in such nominations the city attorney I understand has always said that there's some remote possibility that the city by its involvement would not be able to separate itself from actions of the organising committee think that the two issues are in conflict I'm saying that this city of Los Angeles will not be free that is not the city discussions have taken place with a number of people from the insurance industry the recommendations have been made to me as to how we could proceed through a task force of some of the principal underwriters in this area and I expect that we're going to proceed in that fashion the actual task force has not yet been appointed and there are a couple reasons for that but it will be done has not yet been decided ultimately any contract any proposed contract has to be no I haven't David Walker says he believes that the ILC attorneys the meaning and the negotiating session and their recommendations to our delegates I did later that same day meet with lordcool Arnon and Mister Worrell one of the members of that IOC committee and I didn't get the impression that this was a gimmick or that they were not serious about it so I don't know the basis upon which Dave Walker makes that comment I have no indeed I have no indication other than the statement made by Lord Killarney at this press conference so I'm not going to speculate about some other possibilities this impact
